gift cards
« on: May 01, 2015, 05:20:32 pm »
I am very disappointed. I was given 2 gift cards at Christmas time. They were supposed to have had $25 on each. I just used the and they only had $10 each. I called the giver and confirmed how much she loaded. She paid cash for them. My thought is the person pocketed the difference between the $50 and $20. Hope they choke on their I'll gotten gains!

I'm sorry. That must have been a terrible experience for you. I'm sure it was for the person who bought them as well; knowing she had been bilked. Is she going to follow up on it?

My complaint about gift cards is that when I don't use the full amount when I redeem them, they lose the rest of the value. Seems so not fair. That is what gets my goat. :bunny: [yeah, I know it's not a picture of a goat]  :P.

She is an older lady, and does not want to make a fuss. I told her that the thief is counting on just that mind set. I also told her that if she does not report it, then the person is free to continue, and cause someone else the same experience.

Not to be a downer-but I don't understand the point of gift cards. They can only be used at one place and are just worth less as the same amount in cash. Also an excuse to not come up with a gift. I'm not trying to incite anger, just giving my opinion.don't hate

But that's the whole point of the gift card. If you frequently shop at specific places (ie. Target or Barnes and Noble), then this is bonus money in your hand. I get tons of Amazon gift cards and have it build up in my account until I want to purchase something. Sometimes people prefer gift cards. Most of the time this is what I ask for because I never know what I want at the time or whatever I want isn't available yet.

Same sort of thing happened to me.  In May of 2014 I paid cash for a puppy to fly to California from Cincinnati on American Airlines.  Six months later I started receiving calls from a collection agency and I'm still receiving the calls.  I have tried to contact American about it with no success.  Obviously someone at the counter kept the money.  I'll not pay cash to an airline again, that's for sure.

When you purchase gift cards they usually ask you if you want a gift receipt which would've shown the amount on the card.

I am sorry to hear that.  My guess is that some of the balance may have expired.  If so, the person who gave you the cards was ripped off. Did they get a receipt at the time of purchase?
