Work Scenaro #5
« on: September 29, 2015, 10:40:00 pm »
They have a suggestion box at work but nobody puts any suggestions in it.  Most workers feel what is the point since nothing ever changes because the boss can't manage and if he does make a change it is done between him and another person secretly to benefit that person only but may affect everyone.  Who thinks a suggestion box is a joke and is just for show and a human relations requirement?  If management really took people's suggestions seriously you wouldn't need a box.  Any thoughts, suggestions?

I think sometimes it is a waste to have suggestion boxes (depending on the office).  I think bosses have the box to see who would put suggestions in it.

I worked at a place that was the same.  No one put anything into the box because they knew it was never going to be addressed.  If they wanted to take it seriously, management would have somewhat regular meetings where more than just a few people were involved and serious suggestions would be read and discussed.  Brainstorming and discussion can often lead to worthwhile change, for those who are open to it.

The daytime project is too busy to read any suggestions.  They do hold an innovation meeting once a month for people that have ideas that can save the company money or streamline processes. Four years ago I was on a project and they would read all of the suggestions at a monthly meeting regardless of how moronic they might be.  This would go on for forty five minutes and was usually filled with laughter. One in ten suggestions were worth taking a look at. Some people started putting joke suggestions in which wasted even more time. The structure at the current day job is quite tight knot with two meetings per week to go over concerns. There are a lot of subject matter experts on staff who are always looking for a new twist and are very approachable.

I've never put anything in the suggestion box.
