What do you think ?
« on: July 22, 2015, 04:17:47 am »
A good friend of mine (no it's not me ) got hurt on the job while running an errand for the company. He fell down a flight of stairs delivering a package. He worked for maybe a week or 2 later with sore ribs and a sore leg when he decided to walk into work with a cane. Well, the first day he walked in with his cane his boss sat him down and told him they no longer needed him anymore and after 27 years he was let go....is there something wrong with this picture?

I know some places will let employees go if they get hurt while on the job.  I know one lady that was hit by a forklift and was left with lifetime injury---they gave her her choice of job in the company (even though she had NO education for it) and paid her medical bills.  I guess it just depends on the company...

I believe it's time to see an attorney who specializes with Workman's Comp cases.  I do live in a state that allows for at will (basically being let go without cause) but if there is a record of injury I think there may be a case.  Was the injury officially reported?  did he report the fall immediately when returning to work?  Either way, I would consult legal help.

Oh my goodness, that sounds terrible. I'm not a legal expert but isn't there legislation against this stuff? I mean, surely they need to give him a reason for letting him go which, whatever it is, sounds dodgy when he has already put in 27 years of successful service. If for instance, he has become unable to do his job because of his injury, are they not responsible for making "reasonable" adjustments to enable him to do his job. Can he not take them to court for unfair dismissal? I would like to know what happens so I will continue to read this thread.
