I heard Lenovo is a good laptop brand from people, my professors, and online reviews. Just make sure it has good CPU, because the Asus laptop that I bought with i3 processor runs so slow. Got it on a black friday deal 1.5 years and it has a small weight to it (perfect for commuting for my college). However it runs like a potato when I need it for classes. Not just me, I believe tht my Mom's laptop (which has a i3) runs pretty slow. Maybe it's just me since I  am accustomed to i5 or fx8320 processors.

If you are planning on buying a laptop without touchscreen, I suggest waiting until windows 10 comes out. No idea why the Microsoft people think it was a good idea to make a OS more tablet/touchscreen orientated on non touchscreen laptops and desktops. Regardless it could be fixed by downloaded Classic Shell, but I don't personally like installing third party software to improve the OS functionality
