I actually love lifting weights. it is somthing you definately work up to. depending on the exercise i'm lifting anywhere from 8-25lbs. I have a balance problem and it seems to helped that as well. I have to excercise every day but only lift weights a couple of times a week. I have to be careful not to over do it. :rainbow: :rainbow: :rose: :wave:

I agree that lifting weights isn't for everyone.  It's for people who want to tone and strengthen muscles and it's for people who are willing to drink enough water so they aren't dehydrated while they work out.  It's also for people who are making an effort to take care of their selves in other ways; such as, getting quality sleep and consuming enough protein to feed the muscles they're working.

I think that in a controlled environment weights are one of the best routes to having a healthier body. Doing more repetitions with lighter weights helps tone the muscles you are working on. Weights help you sculpt particular parts of your body. Consulting a doctor and a personal trainer can help people overcome many misconceptions about weight lifting.  Dieting and cardiovascular training are great ways to help you get on the road to better health but can not sculpt a body as well as weight lifting can. If your body is pear shaped, cardiovascular workouts/dieting will reward you with a smaller pear shaped body.  Weightlifting will present you with a results driven body and create muscle that will metabolize fat even faster.

I lift weights that I know I can do in mass workout period. Although it be easy for me to do, getting used to a weight set slowly builds muscle. When I find a weight that is way too light, I just move onto the next weight set. My brother have a hard time lifting weights, as he keeps getting injured. He keeps on straining his back and doesn't understand on how to take it easy

I think it depends on the person's body type and exercise preference.  A person who is 100 lbs shouldn't start out lifting 150.  It's best to pace yourself, even starting out with a weight that is much less than you know you can handle.  I've recently been reading the benefits of weight lifting as pertaining to weight loss.

I too want to start weight lifting as a means of toning up.  I also want to learn to incorporate weights with my squats for faster/longer lasting results.

Yes, I agree, there is a right way and wrong way to weightlift. I myself am trying to bulk up a bit as I lost a lot of weight and now need to start toning. But I won't push myself to the point where I get injured.
