Depression and anxiety are NOT just states of mind.  Studies show that the chemical balances in the brain are not normal at the time.  These changes can be biological and genetically prone or they can be impacted by what is called situational depression.  Studies show that people with these issues benefit greatly when the right medication is found.  The best treatment is a combination of therapy and medication.  When you have such conditions, I would say supplement therapy and medication with whatever works for you, be it prayer, meditation, etc.  Also, sometimes it is trial and error to find the right medication at the correct dosage.  These meds, which work with the brain chemicals, can't be expected to work right away, and often produce short periods where you feel a little different than usual..."spacey", if you will.  After all, the brain chemicals are trying to be put in balance.
