As long as the gift was selected with an appropriate motivation, I'd be happy to accept it.  (meaning if the purpose of the gift was a white elephant gift, or if it was something the person thought I'd get a laugh out of, or a "serious" gift and it was all the person could afford to spend - not that I expect anyone to spend anything on me...)  It the intention was to select something cheap as a spiteful gift - then I wouldn't be too happy to receive it - not due to where the gift was purchased, but the intention behind it was spite, not the spirit of giving.

I love going to the dollar store and looking around and seeing what treasure I can get so I would be fine with a gift from the dollar store.

I don't expect anyone to buy me a gift from anywhere.  If someone gives me something from the Dollar store.....

I would acknowledge the fact that....

it's the thought that counts.

Exactly! My friends got me candy from the Dollar Store as a gift and I was glad that they at least you me a gift in the first place.
Opinion: 1) a view, judgment, or appraisal formed in the mind about a particular matter 2) belief stronger than impression and less strong than positive knowledge
This is the internet, learn to let people have opinions. And don't be so sensitive.  8)
