Laptop battery draining

A few months ago, I got a new laptop. It's working fine, except when I leave it turned off for a while, the battery drains, even though it's not in use. Since I mostly use it on weekends, from one weekend to the next I lose over 60% of the battery charge. It's still under warranty, but I don't know if I have a faulty battery, or something else is wrong. Any suggestions?

Sounds like a faulty battery to me.

The battery is not faulty.  The battery will run down whether you are using it or not.  They do not hold the charge forever.

You should take it back to the sore or call the company to replace the battery for at no charge. I don't think it is your fault. I think it is a faulty battery.

I would get it checked out. I bought my laptop 2 years ago. and I always have it plugged in unless I am out with it. never had a problem

I would especially if you're saying you're not using it that often for it to drain that fast.

I hear this problem often with Laptop batteries.  I would check what the battery life is supposed to be for it.  I should be in the specs somewhere.

That's what I'm figuring, that it's probably a faulty battery. I'm doing a test on it: I charged it fully, then took it out of the laptop. I'll wait a while, then see if it loses it's charge even when it's not installed. If it does, then its the battery that's faulty, but if it stays charged, it's probably the computer.

It sounds like a faulty battery. It shouldn't lose it's charge that fast when the laptop is off.

I had this problem and it was the power cord and battery use you warranty and get it fixed because it gets worse if you don't and its very hard to find new batteries for your laptop.  They fixed the problem but it still had problems after my warranty ran out and finally quit working but mine was a refurbished laptop which I didn't realize I was buying.

If you leave it plugged in after it's already fully charged, you can over charge the battery and it won't hold its charge the way its supposed to. If you haven't done that and in one week's time with it being turned off completely it's losing that much battery power, for it being brand new I'm pretty sure it shouldn't be losing that much but that would also depend on how much use and recharges it's been getting on the days you do use it. Mine held its charge pretty good for close to a year (something like 9-10 months I think) and it was being used constantly from day to day, it doesn't hold a charge as well now though (used to last about 5 hours, now only around 3 to maybe 4 depeding on what it's being used for) and I've had it for just over one year now.

Seeing that you leave it for almost a week and it still retaining charge, I'd say your battery is working great.

Mine usually won't come out of hibernation and instead restarts. Maybe you should contact the manufacturer.
