Have anybody ever heard of not being able to get homeowners insurance because you possess to much land?

I have read where it is difficult to obtain Home Insurance in certain state.  I personally, do not have that problem.

I never heard of not being able to get home insurance because of too much land.  You're not insuring the land, just the home so that makes no sense.

It wouldn't surprise my at all. I have gone through 3 different home owners insurance companies within the past 3 years. The first one canceled because we had trees on our property, the second one decided after we had the insurance for only one month that they are no longer insuring older homes. Hopefully the last one will be ok for awhile.

WoW...I have to say I never heard of that one!  So I'm just going to put a few thoughts out there, but I'm really just thinking out loud from past experience with insurance.

Insurance will usually insure anything for enough money, so make sure you completely understand what they aren't insuring and for what reason.  Do they understand exactly what you want?

Also, I know there are a number of factors that might disqualify from getting insurance or higher rates.  For example, some insurance companies want to know  if you have a dog and what breed, because certain breeds are known for more attacks and your homeowners can be sued.

If you have a claim of a certain amount within so many years, again certain companies might not insure or put certain qualifiers on it.  Did they ask you questions about your land, such as are there ponds or outbuildings on it?  Do you conduct any type of home-based business on it or using its resources?  Just thinking about what might be influencing such a decision knowing that insurance has hundreds of qualifiers that they look at for insuring, itself, and then ratings for what they charge.
