When i was younger i enjoyed shooting off firecrackers,ash-cans,cherry bombs etc.

Now i wont even hold a sparkler in my hand.Amazing how you have so much more nerve and are stupider when you are a kid.

Some years ago I did have some firecrackers go off in my hand when I lit them and didn't throw them fast enough.  I never tried that again.  Amazing pain!!!

When I was younger, I loved to see all the fireworks, hold the sparklers, and listen to the huge bombers go off. Since having my daughter, I've suddenly become aware of how dangerous they are. Now we do fun crafts during the day. Plus, the city always does a huge fireworks display out in the ocean and we live so close to the beach, we sit out on our patio and watch from a safe distance. If we purchase any type of  fireworks, it would be the little fountains of lights.

We were fireworks fanatics when we were young.  My little brother would save his money all year to spend at the fireworks stands.  He was four and could barely see above the counter.  We had parental supervision of course.  Now we go somewhere to watch other people blow their fireworks...and blow their money.  I still love them.

I remember when I was young, (about 6), my dad let me and my sisters hold sparklers. We didn't really appreciate how dangerous they were and I remember my sister swiping her sparkler across my neck and it burnt! The wound cleared up and I wasn't scarred, but it makes me doubly careful when I am giving safety instructions to my two sons. They will not light the fireworks, my husband will do it while they stand well back, they are allowed to hold sparklers but only if they are at least 10 feet away from each other (and the house, and the car, and the dog!). They may not go back to a firework once it has been lit. My husband cleans all the debris away. My kids are now 8 and 10 and we have had no catastrophes!

Great message.  I'd like to see everyone use good judgement when it come to fireworks.  Be careful and enjoy the freedom that we experience as we are very, very blessed to live in this country.

love to play with fireworks but the politicians, fire dept, and other complainers in our county got together and banned fireworks.  So irritating.

This is a good reminder. So many injuries happen around this time of year from improper firework handling. Let's all try to remember to be careful and encourage everyone else to be careful too. No need for unnecessary accidents. Happy Fourth everyone!

Thank you for the gentle reminder involving the risk of injury from fireworks.  We've (thank the Lord) never incurred any injuries from fireworks and now that we host our own family backyard fireworks show that's saying a lot.  Our first year we had those giant sparkler's... they are a yard long or so and a little girl quickly brushed the side of my daughters face...not marks just a scare.  Last year we had a $4.99 firework called "the giggles" malfunction.  For us spectators it looked like the star wars introduction.  We literally leaned back in our lawn chairs to avoid the sparks.

Fireworks are illegal in the city where I live and the surrounding areas. When I was a kid, fireworks were legal and it was great fun and something to look forward to every year. Since it's illegal where we are, we have to find a venue that's putting on a fireworks show and either attend or hopefully be able to see them from our home - which is usually the case.

Fireworks are illegal here, but that doesn't stop anybody...as the wife of a firefighter, I dread this holiday
