Drop off Your New Born
« on: June 04, 2014, 07:01:28 am »
I keep seeing this ad on TV where a girl is fixing to throw her new born in a dumpster.  But at the last minute (as the truck is picking up the trash) the girl takes the new born to the hospital and drops it off.  The ad is saying "Bring your new born to any hospital.  Drop it off.  Walk away.  No police. (but the say plice  ::))  No questions and the kid will be lovingly put up for adoption)

HOW is this possible?  Anybody could kidnap a kid and take to a hospital.  They can't just take a random baby that they do not know who it belongs to and just put it up for adoption.

The ad is stupid.

I have not seen this ad.  I recall, when I lived in Chicago, that young women would deliver a baby, put it in a bag near a garbage can, and either the baby expired because of hypothermia.  In some cases, the baby cried and was found.  Here is my take on this:  the teenage/young woman delivering these babies is not ready to go through the life-changing strategies that this entails.  The ad was meant, at that time, to stop the fact that these young women were getting rid of these babies and give them the chance to leave the baby at a firehouse, hospital, or church without reprisals from the police.  But that does not work if you kept the baby for two months, got tired of the constant crying and decided to pack it up and put it on the steps of a hospital, firehouse or church.  It only works if the baby is a newborn, just coming from the womb.  I don't find the ad to be stupid; the ad is meant to make the world aware of this problem.  If you don't want a baby and the changes that having babies entails, don't procreate.  There are women out here in the world who can't have babies, and want to have one.  That is the kind of person I can see taking care of and loving a baby. ??? ??? ??? :rainbow: :rose:

It's the safe haven law. Parents can drop off babies with staff at hospital or fire station without repercussions. The specifics vary by state. It's much better to actually leave an unwanted child at a safe place than to dump them somewhere

If the baby is older, you can still pretty much drop them off, but then you will have to fill out paperwork.  They will still take them to prevent something from happening to the child.

The ad is not stupid.  It gives the girl a better option than the immoral one of dumping a live human being like garbage.  These girls can also go to a Fire House and drop their child off there.  They'd be saving a life and giving that life a chance to survive and have a real home.

Yeah I see what you mean, but I guess it's geared towards women who are contemplating trashing their baby. Which is horrible because there are so many people out there who can't have kids and want to adopt. So I get the overall message of the ad, but I also understand where you are coming from too.

We have that law in my state.  You can drop off the baby at any hospital (not sure about fire stations), and no questions asked.  This is for mothers who might otherwise kill their baby.  I think it's a good law, it has probably saved countless lives.

It's a safe haven law. I'm pretty sure if someone had a baby kidnapped they would report it to the police and if a baby was dropped off around that time they would verify that the baby was not the kidnapped child before adopting it out.

We have that law in our state also.  At least these babies will have a good home compared to being trashed. It is so awful to hear about the baby's that are  just thrown away or killed.

I haven't seen this commercial however I am aware of the law in some states where mum's can drop off their new-born babies without any questions asked if they are overwhelmed with motherhood - or for any other reason. I think the general idea is that it avoids mum's killing their babies because they don't want it or can't cope. It's a really stressful time having a baby and sometimes you can't see the wood for the trees. It's to say, there's another way, you don't have to harm your baby and it will be thoroughly loved and looked after. I wish everybody knew this because it would save many infants from being murdered by their mum's. Mum's need more help and understanding because it's the most relentless, thankless task in the whole world. I was an adult before I turned to my mum and said thanks for everything. SHame on me.

Orphanages used to have 'drop off boxes' for just such purposes. In many countries this is still an extremely common practice

Do not kill the poor baby. Take the baby to the Police Department, Local Hospital or Fire Department. That is why we have Safe Baby Laws-To protect the innocents!

I just can't believe how people will "throw away their babies" (literally!) and/or outright kill them.  So many couples are desperately wanting children that would take the babies with open arms.  I would much rather see a child be given up for adoption than neglected and abused.  KY has the safe baby law.
Have a wonderful day!
