Hmm, I've never heard of doing that before. Does it actually work? I moved to Colorado last year but I still have my Utah number.

That would be great if it works.  We get a lot of 800 calls though.  It wouldn't make any difference with these calls.

A lot of cell phones are not the same as where you live.  If you have a land line I wouldnt think you could do that.  Also dont see how it stops telemarketers since none of them are local.

That is a wise move but wouldn't you get those calls from the area that she chose the number from?

I'm a huge believer in You Mail, which is a free service that gives out any fake voice mail message you choose, including that the number has been disconnected.  You can assign messages individually, so you will never hear from certain people again. Just Google You Mail and become a believer.

Not necessarily.  Most of the telemarketer calls are computer generated.  The computer does not know the ding ding ding this number has been disconnected.  Just like when an answering machine picks up and it says to please hold for the next available operator.  When a connection is made the computer starts talking.  And I think it was actually someone on this site that use to be a telemarketer that said the only way to remove your number from their list was to nicely and politely ask them to remove it.  Me, I chose to report them on donotcall.gov. lol  That has stopped a number of calls to my phone.  I reported one several days in a row.

I signed up for "Do Not Call" status, but I still get a few repetitive telemarketers.  I would like to report them but they always start talking before my answering machine picks up the first few words that identify the entity that is calling.  Otherwise, I assume you have to have caller ID in order turn in their numbers, which I do not have.  Any suggestions?
