I started a website getting donations to fund gift and such for kids with cancer that have long stays in hospitals because i personally went threw this a few years back at 14 i had cancer ......is this a bad idea i mean i just want to help because i know i how it feels

nope I think it's a great idea. I Think it would put a smile on there faces to see someone who has been through the same thing help them out. that's just my opinion.

of course that sounds like a good idea!

however, i'd take into consideration that a lot of people
aren't gonna donate to just anyone. there have been
too many situations where people have set something up
just like that (with the intentions to donate, and also the
intentions not to) ... and the money doesn't end up going
to the prime cause.

there's probably some sort of banner or certificate for your website
that you can get, that confirms that the donations are legitimately
being used for the purpose intended.

relayforlife . org   has information on setting up online fundraisers  
i would check it out if you're wanting to get started in something like that.

........I feel that donating to ANY internet website that is NOT the direct charity is a risky thing to do, if you want to know a great charity to consider then look into ST. JUDES CHILDRENS HOSPITAL, they are most respected and have been around for years, their causes are EXTENSIVE and you can send the money DIRECT if you get the address.  I will not post any contact information here because of the rules but look it up and look into it...and thank you for thinking of the children, so many of them are forgotten and it's sad the pain the little ones go through   it breaks my heart

I will not donate money to any online source.  Mainly due to all of the fraud that you about with these types of things.  I do donate directly to our local children's hospital.  I think that they have a wonderful thing there.  I take my children there and will not use any other hospital for them.  They do have a website and it may be that you could link into it so that donations can be given directly for those like who are leary of donating otherwise.

I would never donate to any online source campigning for money, no matter the good cause.  There are just to many cons and scams going on no matter how good the spiel.  The most innocent sounding charity can be the biggest rip off in history and they are just waiting for someone vunerable enough to fall for the marketing script.

While the idea in itself is great and noble, I could never see myself donating to a person or organization before checking to see if they're legit. As mentioned earlier, St. Jude is a great organization. I have donated to them any number of times because the work they do is amazing. There's several other places. But as far as an individual on the internet, sorry. No donations.

Noble idea, but ill-willed people have destroyed the concept for those with good intentions.

i agree with most of the above posts..
you'll have to make sure people believe you're legit, else they won't bother with you. things like that are risky these days and not everyone has the best of intentions for such ideas.

Cancer is a terrible thing and touches all but giving money when you are not certain it is to the real charity not a good idea. But to anyone that survives cancer good for them they are the lucky ones

I would only donate to organizations that allow me to see their reports.
