Where Did People Get the Idea that Hell Is UnderGround?
« on: January 12, 2014, 03:19:59 am »
... when all the 'hellfire' COMES FROM HEAVEN (as when God destroyed Sodom & Gomorrah)?

Jesus' 'woe to Capernaum' might be a good example of the reason: He notices they hold themselves in 'high like Heaven'-esteem , & the woe is that they will be brought into low-esteem. As the opposite of low is high, so Jesus makes Hell the opposite of Heaven.

I remember that one of the words oft-translated "Hell" comes from the name of Jerusalem's garbage-dump (where there was usually a fire burning). This--to me--illustrates Hell as more like 'the condition of one whom no one cares-about or -whom is "thrown away"' than like 'punishment' (for we remember that 'the Lord punishes those whom He love').

I believe that the unsaved go to the same afterlife as the saved, but--like that 'old people'-smell at your grandparents' house--the environment feels different to they who do not love it

So now you don't believe in Hell? Why be obedient to God then?Eat drink and be merry! You'll just go to a slightly less fashionable Heaven.

Seriously, are you trying to start your own religion or something?I don't want to sound cruel, but your theology has been laughable every step of the way.You should stop now,at the risk of embarrassing yourself further.

Google JediJohnnie and May the Force be with you!

This is how the ancient Hebrews viewed the world. Do more research on Sheol and you'll get more of an understanding of how the mythos of hell evolved into what it is today.

The irony here made me chuckle.

i don't know why we say hell is underground but there a lot of integrations of hell. there are many religions that interpret the religious books in their own way.

So now you don't believe in Hell?

'Believe in' - One might want to be careful about what one means when one uses those words with bad things, because one also 'believes in' good things. I guess I'm of the 'count your blessings & you won't HAVE TIME for curses'-philosophy.

Why be obedient to God then?

"We are saved by grace through faith, and not of works lest any man should boast." i.e. you're obedient to God because it is the desire of your new nature ... you obey without even thinking about it (not to say 'it's NOT obeying if you DO think about it' >:) )

I'll remind you that 'I DON'T BELIEVE IN "RELIGION"!' (the same way 'I don't believe in Hell')

You remember King David, who felt no same in praising the LORD in his underwear before the multitude. I want to approach that type of shamelessness.
