I think there's a way you can stop receiving automatic notices from people who do those kinds of posts too much. So you might try looking into your Facebook settings. Good luck!

Oh my god... drives me NUTS! Especially when people post articles from TheOnion or DailyCurrant which are CLEARLY satire sites and are flabbergasted by it when it's a joke. Some people should just not use the internet. -_-

I am also so sick of political posts and shares that show such extreme views and that are just shared with no attempt at researching them to see if they are anywhere close to being true.  Most of them are blatant lies and half-truths.

Some people, especially on Facebook, will post, repost, or share anything and everything they see without ever checking to see if it is true.  One of these is missing people, pets, etc.  I think it is great to repost messages about missing children or pets, but some people will repost them without checking to see if they are still missing.  I have found if you click on the picture of the missing, you will usually find updates that will tell you if they are still missing.  Some of the missing have been located months or years before.  Also, there are so many outlandish things that are being reported as true.  I always check Snopes before I repost anything like that.  I think it is ridiculous that these reposts keep going on forever.

I agree with at least part of this.  I use to have a friend who constantly shared "find my missing kid" and after about 3 of them where the kid was dead I started sending her links showing where the kid was dead or whatever.  The one the mother was begging people to stop sharing all over FB to find her child who was not coming back.  She (the friend) no longer speaks to me. lol

And the I had another where I had shared something political ON MY PAGE and a friend got smart on her page making digs at me saying how "people need to check to see if things are true" and what I shared was TRUE she just did not agree with it.  Yep, we don't talk no more either. lol

I've never really had any problems with that on facebook. xD
I do have a relatively small friends list though (52)
But it's kind of hard to expect that everyone wants to spend time researching to see if something true/still applicable. (I've heard there's people who exist that only use the internet for facebook for the most part.)

I can see how that'd be annoying to constantly see though. :/
Even if someone posted something like that I probably wouldn't repost it anyways, cuz' I figure there's people with a bigger audience that could get the message across better anyhow xD

You do not have to search to see if it is true or applicable.  But before "I" share something on FB I want to know that it is true.  I do not share messages.  I also see what you are saying.  But if say a kid is missing in California and I live in New Hampshire then I do not see the point in sharing for someone to LOOK for the kid.  They most likely did not make it all the way across the country.

I know exactly what you are talking about, you have to take everything you see on FB with a grain of salt. I have got into arguments with stuff they have posted that wasn't true.

I've heard that Snopes isn't 100% accurate either.
Apparently from what I heard, it is run by a couple people who just do research same as anyone else, so they can't be fully trusted either.
I still use it Snopes too, but less & less now that I know it isn't all knowing either.

people do repost a lot of stuff that should be checked...i have also heard of snopes and used it a couple of times..i know there are times i see the same thing being passed around at least every month or so

I never looked at it that way, I just see a missing person and feel like I'm doing my part to help find them, kinda like if it were me or one of my loved ones....I will now on start to check and see if they have been found.....

I'm very selective about what I "share" on Facebook so I don't take any of it very seriously.
Have a great day!

I can respect the fact you check on these things before sharing or reposting.  But honestly, I can't get upset with someone at all for sharing a story about a missing child without checking on it.

You can usually find out if a child is still missing just by checking on the picture.  The comments there will let you know if the child is still missing.  Very simple, very easy.  I don't get upset about the "Missing Children" posts.  It's just that I've seen some where the child was recovered 3-4 years ago.  I see no point in resending them forever.

I never repost a story that someone has posted.  If it's a quote that I like, I will like it but that is about it.  I think you are asking a lot from someone to do research on a reposted story.  That seems to be your problem, not theirs.

We had to give our dogs away and now miss them, but we sold our house and we couldn't find a rental that allowed them... enjoy your pets...
