So what is causing all those zombies to become zombies after death or being bitten?

i think it had to either be something that was piped into the air or was something that was put in the water or food.  if they all are infected it has to be something they all would have come in contact with.

I'm about 4 episodes away from finishing the second season!!! :D That's a good question, though... I wonder how, too. Hmmm...  ???

I think they all became zombies by watching so many TV shows and movies about zombies.

I am so ready for the new season.  Most of the time I do not like zombie movies, but The Walking Dead has such great characters and story lines...twists and turns we just don't see coming.

I think it's something similar to the swine flu, jumping from pigs to people, and becoming especially virulent.

I don't think zombie shows and movies exist in their world, which is probably why they don't refer to the animated dead as 'zombies'.

Once they figured out a process for dealing with zombie-ism...bullet or knife to the head, then the zombie "virus" mutated in order to stay alive and propagate faster and stronger.  Its a common problem with many diseases.  Love that show.

If you mean in general, they already said early on, when Shane died (hope that's not a spoiler for anyone  :dontknow:), Rick revealed that that doctor (or scientist... don't remember) told him that they were all carriers. The "virus" is already inside of them. It keeps only a part of the primitive brain alive. So, it's just a new virus like anything else, it just turns you into zombies.

If you mean now that they're dying from some kind of illness, that illness doesn't turn them into zombies. It's just like a bad flu as someone mentioned, like the swine flu, that kills you. Once you're dead, it's business as usual... you turn into a zombie because of that other virus. This new bug just kills you and easily spreads because they're in such close quarters.

I am amazed at how many people are following the Walking Dead! My kids turned me onto it when it first began and now it is the focus o f Sunday evenings! We do the same thing with Awkward, Teen Wolf and Once Upon A Time...used to do it with The Amazing Race but Walking Dead is so much better. We missed last week but recorded it and I watched it all by myself, last night, until my daughter came home and then we re-watched it together. There is a connection with how the zombie dies...I guess that if you don't kill it's brain it doesn't die...kind of the same way that a human would succumb to death by a zombie. If the zombie eats your brains you will not be in the next show.
