Help for a kitty with diaherra

My kitten always has loose stools.  She has been to the vet and checked and also wormed.  She has been eating the same food for quite a while but we are still having a problem.  Any natural cures or thoughts would be appreciated.

You can try changing there food to a more natural food if you haven't. Some stuff in some brands of cat's food can cause diaria. If your giving it any milk at all stop because cat's can't digest human milk and it bad for them. Also give your cat fresh water two to three times a day might help with your issue. IF your cat is also stressed out by human activity (if your stressed that can cause it to) they can sense it and for some reason it does cause stress to them as well. So staying calm is the best option. Since you were veg on info that's the best advice i can give

I suggest changing the kittens food to something else and possibly another brand name. See if this helps...

I have a cat and she never had diarrhea, but I did a quick search and found someone on a forum who's kitten had the same condition as yours...They said that kittens with diarrhea that have already been dewormed may have something called "Coccidia", which is an intestinal infection. Here's a quote from the blog:

"When I got my Izzy from the SPCA she was 6 weeks old and had diarrhea...it even got to the point where she was incontinent After several stool samples and many expensive vet trips plus being told she may have to be put down I finally took her to another vet who suspected she could simply have an intestinal infection and put her on a trial run of metronidazole for 2 weeks which WORKED!!!!!
Don't lose hope!"

Maybe she's become allergic to the food you're feeding her.  Although I don't know what kind of food you're giving her, I will say that many cats and dogs are sensitive to the GRAIN-FREE diets.  Try giving her a food with chicken & rice in it.  Never change the food COMPLETELY and right away.  Add the new food a little at a time each day to the old food you're already giving her until the new food completely takes over.

Also, cats do NOT do well on MILK.  Milk will give them a diarrhea.  There are brands of CAT MILK that you can buy in places like pet stores or even Walmart that come in cans or containers.

A more "natural" remedy that might help is to go and buy a can of PUMPKIN (do NOT buy the Pumpkin with other spices in it), use the PLAIN PUMPKIN.  Give her a teaspoon or two of that for a few days.  You can even mix it in with some wet food.  Pumpkin is also good for cats with constipation.

You might try not feeding her for a few days to see if the diarrhea stops.

If that helps and makes the diarrhea stop, then you could introduce her food again slowly making sure she has plenty of fresh water available.

For people, I always use diluted dark cola such as Pepsi or Coke (half dark soda with half water). I don't know what effect that would have on a kitty, though.  Might not be good.

She probably wouldn't drink it anyway.

Thanks for all of the tips and advice.  I'm going to try the pumpkin first.  I'd read that somewhere else too, then we'll try another vet trip and/or change of food.

  One of my cats had a problem with runny poo when he was a kitten.  The vet checked him, said it was worms and sent him home with meds.  At the end of meds, he still had the problem.  She checked him, said he still had worms and it wasn't uncommon, he came home with meds again.  After the meds, he still had problem.  She said his worms were gone, so she was checking him for another internal parasite he may have picked up but all tests came back negative.  She ended up diagnosing him with IBS (irritable bowel syndrome).  During that time, a few people also informed me that he was a Norwegian Forest cat and I knew he had been living outside on a farm for his 12 weeks before I got him.

  I realized his diet may have consisted of what he could catch--mice, etc.  I decided to put him on a grain-free diet and see how that went.  It totally cleared up the problem.  He's two now and if I give him any food with grain (wheat gluten, rice, etc.) he has the runny poo problem again. 

  The vet approved the grain-free diet for him and my other cats are on it as well and doing great.  If one checks around, the prices aren't any more than the foods with grain in them.  I divide the ounces in a can by the price (including tax and/or shipping) to get the true price and keep a notebook of the food my cats like and where to get them.  I love ordering on-line from pet food direct and you can earn money back from FC if you use the toolbar or go through the FC shopping mall (unless you're using one of the pet food directs special offers).  They have times when it's free shipping on orders over $49---so then it pays to stock up.  The cheapest prices food is a brand called "By Nature" and  my cats love it.  Other favorites have been the pork food, rabbit, they don't care for lamb, Weruva is a big hit but kind of pricey. 

  They also get canned pumpkin a few times a week, plain Greek yogurt a few times a week (just a little tsp. of either, never both in the same day), a fish oil capsule split between them daily, and I plan to start them on a partial "raw" diet soon ("Primal" food can be ordered from on-line from pet food direct, it's pricey but he boys are worth it.)

  So if you've tried everything else and it's not working, and the vet doesn't know why....try going "grain-free".  PetSmart, Petco carry grain-free diets.  Even Walmart has the lowest prices I've found on "Fancy Feast"---if you get the cans that are labeled "Classic" (turkey & gibblets in a olive colored can, chicken in a red can, etc.) are grain-free (check the label to make sure it's gluten-free but the ones I've found that are "Classic" have no wheat gluten).  Also if your Walmart has a refrigerated pet food, the bag for cats is grain free and my cats LOVE that. It's under $5 a bag.

  Most of the pet food recalls in the past have been because of rice or wheat.  Going grain-free also eliminates that problem.  Hope your kitty is better soon.  I know how frustrating it can be dealing with that problem week after week.  Wish you both a lifetime of happiness!!

My advise would be to check on the internet and I recommend Iams and remember no milk or dairy products...animals can sometimes have what is comparable to irritable bowel syndrome in humans    good luck with your kitty...cats are the best

Just an update...I have fed her pumpkin and her stool is firming up.  I'll continue to feed her a little pumpkin and will be changing foods gradually.  I'll keep you posted.
