Who saw The Purge? I loved it. Its not one of those 'omg that was so good' movies. It was just really exciting to watch and kept me on the edge of my seat.
Its about the future, at about 2020. The crime rate is extremely low and unemployment is at 1% because the government has dedicated a 12 hour period every year to 'The Purge'. You are allowed to commit any and every crime and "cleanse yourself" however you like during these 12 hours. The government says that it is a positive thing, that it brings crime and unemployment down, and that it allows people to release all their built up anger and hatred to get it out of their system. The truth, though, is that the event was created to get rid of all the poor and homeless people who do not contribute to society.. The rich have the means to get good weapons and advanced security systems to completely gate/ lock down their homes, but the homeless have to fend for themselves.
The main characters are a wealthy family who decides not to participate in 'The Purge' but the dad is still convinced that it is a good/ positive thing for society. But as unexpected events come his way, him and his family struggle to decide whether to participate in the purge and become the very people they are hiding from, or just try to survive and do whats right. Great summer night thriller
