They always have and always will. Religion, Race, Bribes, Gender, Sexual Orientation, as well as age are reasons people get hired and fired. Much like gun control laws, the EOE Act does nothing to stop the behavior. The laws we have on the books are useless.
I was lying in bed the other night, looking up at the stars, and thinking, "Where in the heck is my roof?"

I think there is quite a lot of age discrimination in hiring.

I do.  I think if you are older and are looking for a job that employers don't want to hire you because of your age.  They don't understand that the older a person is the more reliable they are.  Young people don't work as hard as a person who is older.

I think they do, of course they won't admit it.  They will always come up with another reason, or just say they chose another candidate.

I think some companies do! Although it is against the law, lets be real, if they want to not hire you because of age, they can always find an excuse, Like you are overqualified!! I don't dwell on it but, yes I have seen age discrimination. Especially the high end clothing stores, most of the sales people look like models, they would rather hire a 25 year old than a 55 year old woman.

I think that, sometimes, employers do base their decisions on people's age...in both directions.  I think that younger people have a difficult time getting senior/managerial positions.  This can be explained away, by shifty employers, by lack of experience, education or maturity.  I think that older people have a difficult time because employers start thinking about health problems and the ability to think outside of the box.  I was worried that I would have a difficult time (I am fifty years old) finding a job but I am pretty personable and have knowledge in a field that has remained relatively the same...if it hasn't become easier.  I find it hard to believe that eight five year old people are able to get thirty year mortgages to purchase a house.
