I swear by coconut oil for hair, skin, lashes, oral health, and even digestion. I love it!

Natural Herbal Remedies is just one of the many different types of alternative medicines that you can consider especially when you find that conventional medicine is not helping you with your symptoms. You can derive the benefits from natural herbal remedies in a couple of ways. You may choose to consume the herbs raw or you can take capsules containing herbs that are ground. Making tea out of natural herbal remedies is also very popular. Herbal Remedies teas such as chamomile, dandelion, and many others are now widely sold. Another method of gaining from natural herbal remedies is to remove the essential oils found in the herb and use them as a type of ointment or in aromatherapy.

Thank you to everyone for sharing your remedies!  I was just reading about the onion remedy, and I am going to post about that in a second.

I thought you might find this interesting about onion:

"Onions contain 25 active compounds that appear to inhibit the growth of cancerous cells alliin being the main constituent.  Onion has been found to help combat heart disease, inhibit strokes, lower blood pressure and cholesterol, and stimulate the immune system.  The potassium salts and the flavonoides that are present perform an anti-inflammatory action.  The essential oil is an expectorant, antiseptic, antifungal, anticoagulant, high-blood pressure, antithelmitic, balsamic, rubefciant, and has analgesic properties."

Isn't knowledge fun?

This information is taken from:  http://www.herballegacy.com/Wilson_Medicinal.html

The University of Connecticut lists some great medicinal info about onions:

http://florawww.eeb.uconn.edu/198501260.html

Although rarely used specifically as a medicinal herb, the onion has a wide range of beneficial actions on the body and when eaten (especially raw) on a regular basis will promote the general health of the body. The bulb is anthelmintic, anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, antispasmodic, carminative, diuretic, expectorant, febrifuge, hypoglycaemic, hypotensive, lithontripic, stomachic and tonic[4, 7, 21]. When used regularly in the diet it offsets tendencies towards angina, arteriosclerosis and heart attack[254]. It is also useful in preventing oral infection and tooth decay[254]. Baked onions can be used as a poultice to remove pus from sores[254]. Fresh onion juice is a very useful first aid treatment for bee and wasp stings, bites, grazes or fungal skin complaints[7, 201]. When warmed the juice can be dropped into the ear to treat earache[254]. It also aids the formation of scar tissue on wounds, thus speeding up the healing process, and has been used as a cosmetic to remove freckles[7]. Bulbs of red cultivars are harvested when mature in the summer and used to make a homeopathic remedy[232]. This is used particularly in the treatment of people whose symptoms include running eyes and nose[232]. The German Commission E Monographs, a therapeutic guide to herbal medicine, approve Allium cepa Onion for appetite loss, arteriosclerosis, dyspeptic complaints, fevers & colds, cough/bronchitis, hypertension, tendency to infection, inflammation of mouth and pharynx, common cold (see [302] for critics of commission E). There are many natural remedies listed here.  You may find some useful ones.

Well, the first thing you need to do is change your diet.  Change what you eat.  Without knowing what you eat on a daily basis, I cannot offer suggestions.  And no suggestions will help unless you alter certain things about your life.

Green Tea is great for weight loss.  Cinnamon and Siberian Ginseng are also good for weight loss.  There is a section on here (you would have to go through the posts) on Ginseng.  The Ketogenic Diet, a vegetarian diet, or a Paleo diet have been known to reduce weight.

Processed foods, sugars, and carbs contribute to weight gain.

As there is a current thread going about Pot, I thought I would post this again as my herb of the day.

Herb of the day:
  Cannabis  (Sativa and Indica)

The marijuana plant, or cannabis, has been used for thousands of years by various countries and cultures, and is listed in the Pharmacopoeia or medicinal books of many of those cultures.   Pliny the Elder, Pen Ts'ao Ching, and even the Zoroasters listed the analgesic and narcotic effects of the plants in their writings.

Disclaimer:
I am in no way advocating that anyone uses cannabis.  As an adult, you have the right to make your own decision.  In many states, it is illegal.  In other states, such as California, Washington, and Colorado, it is not illegal to use.  In fact, one of the biggest reasons why it was made illegal in the United States was race relations, and had nothing to do with any dangers.  Since then, it has been classified as more dangerous than cocaine, which is laughable.

The properties are far too numerous to name. The plant contains over 400 active compounds, with D-9 THC being the one mostly widely known. It is an effective agent against nausea.  It helps pain control.  (Many people with Multiple Sclerosis use this plant.  Myself included.  I have a "medical" card issued by the state of California which allows me to use this plant without legal ramifications.)

Some of the studies that have been done on this plant have shown intense promise.

Here are just some articles showing its efficacy:

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/12/01/cannabis-for-infants-brai_n_2224898.html

http://www.newscientist.com/article/dn6283-cannabis-extract-shrinks-brain-tumours.html

There is research which shows that cannabis will kill cancer cells in the brain without harming healthy tissue. http://www.braatah.com/marijuana-kills-brain-cancer-cells/

People who suffer a wide variety of diseases report many therapeutic benefits, as well.  Nausea, pain, seizures, neuralgia, menstrual aches and pains, lack of appetite -- all of these things, and many more are treated.  The five most common ailments that people treat with cannabis are:  Nausea/Vomiting, Loss of Appetite, Muscle Spasms, Pain, and Insomnia.

THC is available in pill form.  In some places, the pill is covered by traditional insurance.

Here is another article which provides links to case studies:  http://www.cannabis-med.org/english/patients-use.htm

I cannot stress enough how wonderful this article is, from the University of Chicago Medicine.  Doctors routinely recognize this plant as a medicine.  It has a fabulous history.

UCM http://www.uchospitals.edu/online-library/content=CDR683767

This information is provided for those who want to learn more.  Again, I am not advocating the use or abuse of Cannabis.  If you choose to use marijuana, that is your choice alone.  If you choose to NOT use it, that is also your choice alone.  However, please do not debate the morality of the issue.  Please do not insult those who do use it for medicinal reasons.

I'm a staunch believer in all netural remedies. It really beats risking the side effects from many of the man-made drugs.

It is amazing how many people are unaware of how bad some of the side effects can be.
