I just got offered a job doing private senior home care for 20.00 an hour in OHio.

That is really good  because around here they pay $10 per hour.  If you were hired directly by the client you could make a little more, but not much.  I know because I have looked into it and we have hired caregivers to fill in taking care of my mom.  However, I am so burned out from doing that work for six years, that I don't think I could handle it.  My mom is about to break my back, lifting and moving her around.

I have two phone interviews today for part time work at home jobs, one is following up with seniors about taking their medication and the other is inbound customer service, so maybe I will get one of those and they will help for extra money but I don't think either one will allow me to replace my current income.  Still, I don't mind working extra jobs to feel more secure.  At least it;s something.

Yes it is very hard to find jobs, my son had a problem he finally found one but he makes minimum wage or just a little more.  With gas price jumping to almost $4 and rent, electric extra its tough.  My husband and I live off of $710 a month and it really not enough we are short every month so I do this online to help out but I am not getting money every month, which is what I need.  We are always so broke its depressing.  Believe me I understand.

I understand where you are coming from.  While there are several jobs available in our area most only pay minimum wage which comes no where near enough to pay for rent, food and basics to live.  This is one of the reason that i had to quit my job and become a stay at home mom and work part time online.  When i started looking for day care i was only going to be making around 1000-3000 a year after the day care was paid and the taxes came out.  Even if it had been on the higher end i would have been take home pay of $57 a week most people cant even eat on that for a week let alone pay rent.  We need to raise minimum wage or lower how much everything cost.

I too joined the ranks of the unemployed after 20 years at the same job.  The only jobs out there are lower paying and part-time.  Most people are working 2 jobs to survive and many without any health care benefits.  It's horrible that we have been reduced to this level.

finding a job now days is a struggle. I lost my job in January due to the company closing the store i had worked at for 17 years. I'm 56 years old and finding a job at this age is depressing.  Unemployment  checks is not good to live on.  But i'm doing my best.  lost my health care also so I'm in double trouble.  I live in a small city also so there are not a lot of jobs unless you have been to college  or know the ropes or have some kind of computer knowledge.

I just needed to work 4 more years at this company and I would have been fine to retire from there and collect my pension, and get a part time job,,,,  now I'm having to start all over.  So I know exactly what everyone is saying,,,,   :crybaby2:

I have found that the state job databases are useful for example the South Dakota job site is: http://dlr.sd.gov/
I certain that most states have his type of website.  You can search by type of job, city, etc.

How do people live, interesting question, answer, barely. I know its hard to find jobs. And you're right, most jobs are advancements within a company. They do not want to spend the money to train anyone and do not want to pay for medical either. Thats why more and more people are working for themselves.

My brother and I can't find jobs. We lost our job at the same place and started looking while we were helping our mom care for our grandmother who had cancer and then we were still making it because of my mom and dad but then my dad passed away in January and my mom lost his income so we are all in a jam. So know exactly how all of you feel.

I have been job hunting lately and can't figure out how people are supposed to live.  First of all there aren't any jobs.  In our local newspaper there are usually only 1-2 legit jobs per day.  If you don't qualify or want those you have to dig deeper.  It seems that all jobs that pay a living wage are for people who already have that job and have been in that job for five years or more.  In other words, they don't want to train anyone to do anything.  Even if you have experience they want you to already be trained on their software, computer systems, etc.

I guess it is what happens when there are so many people needing jobs.  The employers can cherry pick to get exactly what they want.  Great for them, but sucks for us.  They can also pay $9 per hour or less.  Around here it is rare for a job to pay for than that even with a degree.

It seems you have expressed what 99% of the unemployed people feel for sure!!!!  I, myself, was out of work for 3+ yrs. and have just a few short months ago taken a "part-time" position for a mere $9.00 per hr.  So, I can definitely understand where you are coming from.  This just brings me to the question, ARE WE REALLY SEEING OUR ECONOMY GET BETTER??????  Personally, I don't see it!!!!!
