I have heard a discussion about heaven and hell that makes it sound like our works have something to do with it. No matter how much good we do evil is always present, because we have a sin nature. Jesus Christ, the Son of God, was born through a virgin, lived a perfect life, paid the price for our sins on the cross, and rose from the dead. It is His payment for our sins that cleans us. Without the Lord Jesus Christ we cannot be saved.

"What does it profit, my brethren, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can faith save him? If a brother or sister is naked and destitute of daily food, and one of you says to them, 'Depart in peace, be warmed and filled,' but you do not give them the things which are needed for the body, what does it profit? Thus also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead." -- James 2:14-17

That is what your Bible says, clear as day. So stop resting on your Jesus laurels and get out there and actually do some good.
