They aren't as good!  You're right about that.  I have better luck online.

My mother got the Sunday paper for coupons,  but she stopped about 3 years ago or so because the budget was so limited. I loved reading the sports section and the comics, but I too think the coupon deals weren't as good as they used to be. My mother commented on this and recently she said that Walmart or one of the stores stopped doubling coupons so that reduces the savings even further. Plus a lot of the coupons didn't seem to be as a applicable to the shopping.

I agree... The older coupons used to be for saving on a single item whereas now a lot of coupons are good on multiples of the item (eg "save 50 cents when you buy two packages of Oaty Oats Cereal") Also I remember sorting thru my dad's coupon stash, and finding a bunch with no expiration date; now I don't think companies print those no expiry coupons anymore.

I think the economy has had a big effect on stores offering really good coupons.  People aren't shopping like they use so the stores are cutting back on coupon usage.

I can't compare to previous years since I wasn't collecting coupons then.  I pick the papers up at the Dollar Store so I save that way, but I've heard a subscription is even cheaper.

They still have a sunday newspaper?  lol  Obviously I know they still have newspapers but I haven't gotten the paper for years.  If you think the coupons have gone downhill though, you can an unlimited variety of coupons online.
