i went to the emergency room they said i got 4 disc that are busted that i need surgey but i am scared to death of them cut in to my back and spine don't know what i am gonna do any suggestion they put me on pain medicine and nerve pills but its barely touching the pain

I just want to ask if you try professional massage therapeutic. They sometimes very helpful in some parts of,help reduce the pain, comfort the clients and etc.. You might want to go check it out,if you like!!

I'm at least happy that you found out the underline problem instead of just taking painkillers to numb it.  It really worries me how many people are in constant pain and just dull it with painkillers instead of determining if it's actually some bigger problem that could be solved.

Honestly, I'm with you with the surgery.  I'm not a big fan of the idea, but honestly, if that's your only choice, then I'd say go for it.  Assuming the surgery solves your pain, then you won't have to deal with this pain any more.

One thing you could do is go to an chiropractor or an acupuncturist and see if one of them has a solution.  You might also want to try, if you have a tub or a pool, just relaxing in the water to get your spine to relax.  I don't know how safe it would be for your condition, but I wonder if one of those Teeter Hang Ups would help reduce your pain.  I'm not a doctor, so I'd consult one before trying it, but I've heard others say amazing things about it reducing their back pain so it might be something worth looking into.

There are not many things that are worse then bad back pain...I'm pregnant and m back is hurting in the last trimester and its so annoying...I hope you feel better soon!

I have debilitating back pain, but I refuse to get surgery.  I think that decision works for 1% of the people and the 99% have to suffer still because the surgery didn't work.

Boy oh boy do I now how you feel!!!  I myself have 4 herniated discs is my back and have been dealing with them for 12 years.  Yes I said 12 years.  I have tried everything from massage therapy, chrioropractor, don't know if I spelled that right, bio-feedback, shots in my back of a steroid of some kind, physical therapy, and all the while on pain medication that doesn't even touch the pain.  I can't have surgery bcs I have a sliver of my disc in my spine and the only odds the doctors can give me that I will walk out of the hospital on my own two feet is 50/50.  Not very good odds when I have a 8 yr. old at home to raise by myself.  I don't think the doctors even know what they are doing half the time and I've learned to teach myself a lot in 12 years.  I sleep in a recliner and that helps at night.  In the morning I take my medication before I even get out of chair so I can get up bcs of the pain.  One thing you might want to ask your doc about is a duralgesic pain patch.  They seem to work the best for me during the day.  Good luck with the surgery which I would love to have the option to have. Surgery may be your best option, but if you don't opt for it, then I would go for anti-inflammatory pills to reduce the size of your bulging discs and physical therapy with lots of stretching... Good luck and Godspeed!

I feel for you.  I hope you make the right decision.  Make sure you see a second dotor for another opinion, they may know of something else to try before surgery.  My husband and brother in law have both had back surgery and both agree it is the best thing they have done.

My aunt had back surgery for the same thing last November.  She spent years of taking pain meds and having steroid injections that never really helped with the pain.  She too was scared to have the surgery but finally went ahead with it!  She now wished that she wouldn't have waited so long to have surgery!  She feels great and is able to get out and do things without being in constant pain!   My prayers are with you!

My sympathies for you.  My husband has had 5 back surgeries and a spinal fusion.  He has had back problems for over 30 years now.  He has degenerative disc disease now, also.  Please don't wait too long before you have surgery.  Within three months after he had his spinal fusion, he had another disc to rupture.  His doctor didn't think it could be possible for another disc to rupture so soon after his fusion but it did.  The pain was extremely severe.  Then due to the damage to the nerve from that rupture, he developed foot-drop - he no longer has control over his right foot, it just flops around if he does not have his brace one.  He also developed tumors on that nerve on the bottom of his right foot due to the nerve damage.  He had to have the nerve removed which made the bottom of his foot and three middle toes completely and permanently numb.  He takes numerous medications throughout the day including one for the major depression his condition has caused.  Put your trust in the Lord for guidance and healing.  My prayers are with you.
