Get out of a rental lease early
« on: April 01, 2013, 02:30:42 pm »
I need some advice. My girlfriend and I had some major problems awhile back and had a temporary seperation, during which she moved in with her sister, and they signed a year lease together. Now she desperatly wants out, but they still have 7 months on the lease. Is there a way to get out of the lease early without the harsh peniltys?

If her name is not on the lease, it is easy to get out.  If she pays up her portion of the lease early, she will not leave her sister in a a bind.  Has she talked with her sister?  Maybe it is something she needs to do.  You cannot wait 7 months? ??? :o ???

She doesn't want to wait 7 months, and she is on the lease, and her sister went ahead and broke it early, now we are looking for a place.

It sometimes depends on the state and county.  Depending on what the lease says, she may be able to break the lease if anything on it has been violated by her room mate or landlord.  Have there been any violations?  The violations can be relatively minor things.

What exactly does her lease say?  What are the exact terms?
