Has anyone close to you had a stroke?
« on: June 29, 2012, 09:46:32 am »
I am going tomorrow to visit my niece's husband that had a stroke while they were out of the country on vacation.  He is in a rehab hospital and still paralyzed in his left arm.  He is making some progress but I'm just not sure what to expect

my granddad had one and then my bestfriend had a baby that had a stroke when she was prego with her. I would just not feel sorry for him treat him like anyother person. he is still the same. They dont want to be treated like they need everything talk to them like u would before. treat them the way u would want to be treated. I also worked for hosipias growing up.

My dad had one two years ago in May and it has been a very long  recovery process. It aged him considerably as far as his appearance. He now walks with the aid of a walker. He has limited mobility on his right side  as far as using his hand. He has little sight left in his left eye. He sleeps constantly. We have to make him get up.  His memory and speech was also affected. You need a whole lot patience and love.

When I was 17 my grandfather had a stroke.  Up until then he was the feisty type.  Even a heart attack didn't slow him down very much.  But the stroke paralyzed him on one side and affected his speech to the point where he was hard to understand--and this would frustrate him so much that he would cry.  Also, he was confined to a wheelchair.  It was very sad.  But the fellow who is still trying to get back use of his arm sounds like he is recovering.  That's very positive, and I would think that he really just needs to know that you're concerned and that you care about his recovery.
