Does anyone out there in FusionCash land play chess? If so is there a good chess program that does not cost money where you can play against other players, even invite say a friend to join so you can play him to in real time. Please let me know Thanks

Chess is something I only play occasionally nowadays however, an online search may reveal some multiple-player opportunities to knock some chess-rust off, (unless you're matched against some nine year old whiz-kid who plays at the Grand Master level).

My step-father taught me to play chess at the age of ten by crushing my game-play without mercy or remorse - every ... single ... time, until I turned eleven, (and began to take a few games here and there - I was determined).  Years later, we found out that our step-father was a friggin' Grand Master rated player, (he'd never mentioned that minor fact before - another relative informed us, we verified and sure enough ...).

I was a little peeved for a moment and then I realized that I beat a Grand Master at chess.  He wasn't as amused as I was, for some reason.
One can lead a horse to water however, if one holds the horse's head under, that horse will drown.

That was a cool story. I bet you learned a lot. My Dad use to beat me also without mercy. Funny thing is when I started beating him he had some excuse not to play at times then soon we just gave up.

I used to play quite often.  I studied up on games and champions, entered local tournaments, etc.  Then one day I played one of my hunting buddies in chess.  He was a countrified, hillbilly sort who tended to get along with everyone but intellectually he wasn't particularly outstanding (to say it kindly).  He beat me handily.  We played again and it was just as bad.  I insisted to play again and managed no better.  He refused to play any more and instead we went fishing.  My pride was somewhat damaged and the fact that as much effort as I put into the game and I could not even manage a decent challenge to someone who never 'studied' on it and simply only played it sort of ended my interest in the game.  I did find out later from another friend of mine (one who also played and had a slightly better game than me) that the person always beat him just as readily.  My friend told me, with a shrug, "He isn't quite dumb enough to be an idiot savant, so I don't know...".
There are only 10 types of people in the world:  those who understand binary, and those who don't.

I haven't come across any good chess sites, sorry. It seems that the only people who play online are geniuses  :crybaby2:I am a decent player, but I am by no means a genius!

Good luck!

It is by playing chess that patience may be acquired however, by playing "speed-chess", impatience is enhanced.

I wish I could play chess! I thought I could, and played quite often with my brother, but when I tried to play with my husband, he just looked at me weird, and said, "What are you doing?" So I guess I've been playing wrong for years! Now I can't get a hang of "real" chess... Long story short.. wish I could help, but I guess I can't! haha sorry!  :BangHead:

My dad taught me to play, and like others indicated - I lost most, won a few.  My brother learned a few years after me and we'd occasionally play each other...that is until he joined the school chess team and started learning various strategies and gambits.  Got really tired after a couple moves he'd say "So should I beat you with fools-mate version 4 or 10...no I'll pick 7".  That's when I stopped playing him.

Always been a casual player - I admire the game, and applaud those who excel at it.  Every so once in a while I dust off my electronic board, put in fresh batteries, and give the computer a go again...and get promptly kicked in the rear.   ;D

Now, being a full-blooded geek...I've always wanted to pick up a set of 3D chess - the Star Trek version - and learn how to play that.  I drool whenever they pull that out in the show "The Big Bang Theory".  I'd think that would be such a novel version of chess to learn.
