Do you believe that your family should always come first?

Do you mean taking care of them and neglecting yourself? NO! You must strike a balance so that you are taken care of too. If it's a family, everyone must pitch in and do their fair share. There must be mutual respect and cooperation. If you mean putting your family before outsiders, that depends. For instance if you are an adult in love with someone and you want to marry , and your family does not like them and therefore threatens rejection or other recrimination if you marry, I say your heart comes before family in that case. The natural order of things is that once you are an adult you are supposed to go forth and make your own family. If your parents, siblings etc try to interfere with that, it is wrong. Bearing something horrible they know about that person that you dont, they should encourage you and be happy for you.

I guess I must because I have always put them first, well, I felt like, I worked two jobs all through my children's younger years and I regret it now.  I felt like I was putting them first but it made me miss out on a lot of their lives I could have enjoyed.  But none-the-less they are grown now and we are close and they have told me they know I was trying to do the best by them I could.

yes family comes first. (i always buy my son and daughter something with my earnings before I splur on myself. my daughter loves the video games i buy her off of ebay lol )
