Swimming as a Duckling
« on: April 26, 2012, 07:19:45 am »

At my school there is no JV or Varsity swim team. The team is just one big group.
The more experienced swimmers go in as Sharks, while the not so experienced or
still learning how to swim swimmers go in as Ducklings.

For me, i went in as a duckling. It was good and fun, but eventually they put me in the shark lanes
because they felt I was ready. Thing is,

I have a huge problem with breathing. I don't know how to breathe and coordinate my strokes
and breaths. On tops of that, I'm super duper slow. -____-

I've participated 3 times during the entire season, It's pretty difficult.

One thing for sure, :) On the Brightside,

I can dive. :)  ;)

I remember learning to swim.  I went to the YWCA for classes.  My mom was afraid of the water so she didn't let me go until I was ten.  All my classmates were five and fearless.  Me, I had caught mom's fear.  I didn't want to let go or open my eyes.  Once I got over that I kept taking classes through junior lifesaving.  I didn't do well at that because without my glasses I couldn't tell if someone was in trouble.  I did take water ballet though.  I would have taken more of it, but they didn't offer more kids classes and the adult class was during school hours.  :fish:

I was never fast, but I had endurance.  You don't have to be fast for water ballet.  Keep practicing your breathing, you'll get it.  Try chanting in your head:  breathe, stroke, breath, stroke or whatever applies to the stroke you're doing.

i've always been a water baby, but never really learned
to swim properly by technique. i love just lounging around
in the pool.

good for you on diving! you'll be a great shark if you keep at it
