BABY SITTING GRANDPARENTS
« on: April 01, 2012, 03:16:28 pm »
I am a grandma...i'm a much better grandma than i ever was a mom..we learn with age...but the last 6 days of 8 i have watched my daughters kids(not unusual, i do this every week), 4 of these days i watched them for 12 hours each day.    i told my daughter that i would like to have a break(i also have other grandkids besides hers and an elderly mother) and i was going to take the weekend off so she'd have to have her boyfriend (hes also the kids dad) to watch them because he doesnt work on weekends any way.   i got up early saturday and headed out to spend day with my mom shopping and visiting.  while i wasgone my daughter called and my boyfriend told her i was gone for the day and asked her what she wanted.  she said she needed a babysitter.  he told her that i needed a break, and he wasnt going to call me to come home and watch them...she got mad and cussed and he told her she ought to be thank ful because i save her several hundreds a month in daycare fees.   later that night when i got home i logged on to facebook to chat with a friend and she had put on there that i was a terrible grandma and she wasnt letting me see the kids no more because i didnt love them....i'm hurt.   her boyfriends family never watches.   i have them all the time, i just needed a break

what do you other grandparents think?  was i wrong? :crybaby2: :dontknow: :sad1:

No you are not responsible for taking care of your grandchildren 24 hours I mean you help a lot and deserve a break she is there mother she needs to find out other arrangements she needs to get her act together for the well being of her children !!! And putting on facebook she doesnt love her is very immature !!!! She needs to grow up and learn responsibility and appreciate how greatful she is to have a mother who is willing to take care of her children all the time !!!

No, you were certainly not wrong.  I am a grandmother of 6 and 3 of them live in town (2 of them just since June of 2011).  I keep all 3 of them; the youngest is 13 mos old now and I've been keeping her since she was 3 mos old and that has really been a strain on me especially since she only takes 2 30 min naps a day.  My other granddaughter is 5 years old and very, very spoiled.  She resents the baby and I really have to watch her to make sure she doesn't hurt the baby.  The other one I keep is a 10 yr old boy and he's not a whole lot of trouble except when he's tormenting his spoiled sister.  Sometimes it's more than I can take and I tell my daughters to take a day off or I'll explode!  My youngest daughter took a day off not too long ago cause I was getting so stressed and she kept her daughter and her sister's two kids.  I really enjoyed that day off but the next day was business as usual.  I retired from a very stressful job in 2010 and thought my life would be my own but it sure hasn't turned out that way.  I love my girls and my grandkids but not sure how much longer I can go on like it is now.  I really don't think its fair for our kids to expect us to raise their kids for them.
