I totally agree that kids have way too much time off from school.  They should be in school pretty much year round with maybe two two week vacations.  One Around Christmas.New Years and again in the summer months. Other wise they should go monday thru friday the full day.

I totally agree, it seems as of late, kids are spending more time out of school then actually being there. Here in Kentucky anytime something happens they are calling school out for the day, which drives me crazy. I am a Chicago native and the snow could be up to your thighs and they did not close school, we still walked, drive took a bus or whatever we had to do to get there. I think that builds charactor (lol). But here in Paducah if it's raining to hard they close the schools,if the winds blows to hard they close the schools, if its snowing they close the schools and half the time they snow is cleared and long gone by the time the sun comes out.
What pisses me off is the kids have to make that day up at the end of the year which cuts into vaction time for me and my family and if they are not there they are penalized.

Here in Tn I'm not sure they have gone 10 days straight with out getting time off for something and they wonder why kids are doing so bad on standard test .

Here they'll close if it's snowing. Which happens maybe once a year if even that. So far we've got no snow this year at all. Now a few years ago they had to close down for about a week because the pipes froze and busted at the school plus the electric went out so all the food in the freezer spoiled. So the kids were out for about a week so they could fix the pipes and get more food in.

I agree that kids should have a full school year and just a couple of 2 weeks breaks throughout the year.  I know this would be a great help to many families that pay big bucks for child care.

I agree that there are too many breaks these days and do not know how they remember anything.  When I was in school it was mid-June, July and August we were off and maybe a few holidays in between.  Times change I guess. :dontknow:

i agree. i dont remember having all this time off when I was in school. it makes it hard on working parents too. I have noticed that they are learning a lot slower. I knew a lot more then my son does at his age and I dont like it.

yes, while that is so true, I do agree there, but then on the other hand, if you really think about it, what are the kids really learning when they are in school....most of the time is used for them to take the F-cat test and SAT tests, so they really are not focusing on class work it self, then when the kids do come home they have home work and don't know how to do it, because the teachers didn't get a chance to go over it with them in class because of having to prepare them for them dumb tests....the school system here where I live stinks, they have learned more off of me working with them, than in school it self....but how ever if the kids don't go to school you go to jail....at least this is the way it works where I reside.

i don't understand why the kids are out of school so much i just talk to a friend and she was telling me her kids are out for 2 weeks for spring break it is not teaching anything when they are out more then they are in

I enjoyed my days off from school when I was a kid, and we had Christmas break and easter break too.  Kids have
way too much homework, and they need the time off to give their brains a rest.

Kids need a break too.  How'd you like to work for a year straight with no time off?  Burn out happens to every one kids are no different.
