If I want to swim, then I want to go in the pool, generally.  If I want a relaxing outing for an entire day that includes swimming, then the beach.

The beach all the way. So much more to do with more space. It's like an endless sandbox for everyone with nice waves.

I prefer the pool because the chlorine makes the water clean. A beach closest to me is Lake Michigan unfortunately. Ugh.. people treat the lake water like a garbage can. I remember last summer when I went to the beach, I saw a Subway wrapper floating on top of the water. Nasty!

Every place that I vacation usually has a pool and sits right on the beach so I have the best of both worlds.  I used to prefer the pool but, of late, have been enjoying the ocean more because my children absolutely love it.  Once I get into either body of water I am usually in for a minimum of four hours and it takes everything to get me out.  I grew up in Wisconsin and it seemed like you couldn't go five feet without falling into a river or lake...or bar! Now, living in Colorado, I have to drive several miles in order to get near any kind of water that isn't chlorinated.

::) I like to LOOK at the ocean because of its great beauty - I like to swim in pools because I don't like going into the ocean because I am afraid of sharks and jelly fish and getting swept out in the ocean by currents because I am not a good swimmer.  So there you go.  I don't swim in lakes here in florida (although I did when a kid) because of alligators, snakes and parasites that kill folks every year here.  MMMNNnnn apparently lol I have a lot of fears.   :crybaby2:

If I had to choose I would have salt water to chlorine water. Pools I've been to have been extremely packed. There have been beach sands that have been crowded, but the water has been manageable (as long as I'm not stepping on something sharp).

The beach equals long walks on white sandy beaches, pool equal lounging in the sun with a drink in hand.  I like them both.
