service dogs
« on: November 03, 2011, 01:11:52 pm »
ok something happened to me today at a cricket store with a lady who had a "service dog". she let go off the leash and the dog was sniffing around and it came up to me and smelled me so i was going to pet it and then the lady turned around and told me never to pet a service dog. she wasnt handicapped. she was driving and she wasnt blind. and like the person at the cricket store said. the dog's vest was like hand made and the dog wouldnt come up to another person and want attention. they said it would stay by the person needing service and not care about anyone else or anything else. they think that she just put that vest on the dog so she could take it everywhere she goes. the dog was very friendly and he/she wanted me to pet her/him. my fiance told me he knew her from his old work so he knows she's not handicapped. they say there are service dogs for people who have sejures (sorry i know i spelled that wrong.. my mind is drawing a blank on the spelling SO PLEASE EXCUSE THE SPELLING) but should they really be driving? i know someone who does but he drives by himself so when we ride with him, my fiance drives so if that dude does have a sejures then he wont loose control of the vehicle and crash with us in the car.

exactly my point. how do u tell a dog that it cant come up to a person while no one his holding it's leash? and yes i agree , if it was a real service dog it wouldnt car if she dropped the leash..it would stay right by her and not leave her side. it would sit and wait for her to get done what she has to and no smell everything around it.

Are you sure it was a real service dog. Doesnt sound like it was one sounds like she wants her dog around all the time and is scamming stores by pretending the dog is a service dog.

yes i have seen other service dogs and they never leave the persons side. they are very obedient and are very disciplined and concentrate on that one human being. and they sit right by them. apparently the dogs name was dakota. she said dakota u know better. i hope she didnt hit the dog ..i would have hit her. that is animal abuse. i would have called the cops on her. i stared at her when she was getting in her car and backing out. she almost hit 2 people.

Service dogs stay with their person no matter what so I don't believe that was a service dog.
It's spelled "seizure" so you'll know next time.  I know you were upset so don't worry about the spelling, just thought you'd want to know.

You don't have to have a physical disability to have a service dog.  She could have been a service dog trainer and was training the dog who knows?  Some people have animals for emotional support.  As far as having a seizure disorder and the ability to drive I assume if their seizures are really bad their doctor would probably restrict them from driving.  I had a friend who has epilepsy and she had a car and drove.  It depends on the individual.

If you are saying this in response to what bowrunner wrote, how could you possibly know whether kangagirl was upset or not upset? How do you also know bowrunner has 'brain farts'? Geez, nicely telling someone how a word is spelled gets you all kinds of love. >:(

I highly doubt this was a service dog, or one being trained, because they are required to have an identifier, usually a placard on their harness that clearly states they are one. It makes me both angry and sad that some people will go to any and all lengths just to be dishonest, but especially when it comes to the handicapped. :angry7:
