weight watcher recipes needed
« on: October 23, 2011, 04:09:20 am »
Hi !!  My hubby and I are trying so hard to loose some weight.  We have both gained so much since we got married 2 years ago.  I am looking for some good & filling main dish recipes.  I have tried a few and most were not something I would make again.  I found a chicken stew recipe for weight watchers that sounded great but .... it was not worth the trouble to make and really wasn't that good.  I love weight watchers recipes but can't afford to join.  I would also like to know if there is anywhere you can go to see how many "points" you are allowed for your weight etc.... without joining weight watchers. :peace:  ;)

I have no idea about weight watchers, sorry.

You can find the old way to calculate (that's on wiki and there's a couple calculators like this one: http://www.healthyweightforum.org/eng/calculators/ww-points-allowed/) but not really the new 2011 pointsplus one. It apparently increases the amount of points you get, but also increased the point value of "bad" foods (with things like fruit being zero points now). But maybe if you keep googling?
I do know you can find lots of recipes, just type them in. Lots of blogs and stuff, and also calculators or methods for calculating points for the home cook or those foods that don't have them listed.

My sister-in-law did the Richard Simmons diet, which gave you "cards" you "spent" on food, with like, so many meat cards, so many grains, and some freebie cards.
I wasn't really interested at the time though.

Now I am, and I've read lots of diet books. I think it's important to "shop around".

Whatever you choose, if you need something free, have you checked out sparkpeople.com?
It's not really a program, though they do offer a basic one, it is more a place where you can get suggestions, articles and information, track what you eat, track your exercise, and there's a large library of recipes submitted by other members (reviewed too) with nutrition and calorie counts, a whole community really including blogs and forums and groups.

You don't have to do all those bits of course. I don't really use the tracking much, but I like to peruse the articles and recipes, which are quite easy to search (and you can keep them filed away or add your own to your personal "cookbooks").

Nothing saying you can't use it for Weight Watchers ;)
I know a lot of members have already inputted the WW food, so you don't have to put in the calories or any extra info past the name.
Might prove interesting, if nothing else, to see the "behind the scene" details under the point number.

with the new Points Plus program I think you really need to sign up with them in order to know what you need.
you may also try www.mypyramid.gov to learn how many calories, etc you would need in a day.  Many people trying to lose weight don't eat enough- seems ironic, huh?

I think weight watchers website does have some recipes and there are many other sites that provide recipes and idea's for ways to make healthy foods.

Another piece of advice -- PLAN your meals, write down everything you eat/drink, drink lots of water and do your best to increase your exercise.
Oh... and don't drink calories, so make sure what you drink is nearly calorie free (or very low calorie) ..... watch your portion size, maybe try eating meals off a smaller sized plate as this will make you feel like you are getting a lot when it may actually be a smaller portion that you would usually consume.

I have heard weight watchers is really good! good luck with losing the weight! with workout tips: Make sure to do cardio at least 3 times a week and also incorporate weight lifting, it will help build muscles and burn the fat much quicker! also if you decide to work order vigorously, try to eat 5 times a day! healthy and a normal portion!  :icon_rr:

I need to lose about 10 pounds. My question is do weight watchers really work? And does the program work for people who only want to lose a small amount of weight. If so I would love to have a new recipe thanks
