Christmas in October?!

It's all about the money with these merchants. They do it more and more earlier to "lengthen" the Christmas giving season. To me it's vulgar and very greedy to start hawking Christmas wares way before it's time. It makes me sick to see Christmas decorations a month before Halloween.

Two years ago, I decided to not buy into the hype and no longer buy Christmas presents. Christmas is not about how much more you can go into debt. The three wise men did not bring gifts to the Christ child on the night he was born, but almost 2 years afterward. Read your Bible and study it out. Where in the world did gift giving come from? Just like Halloween is nothing but a ploy to sell candy.

In this economy, it makes people feel bad with no jobs and no money to spend for these holidays. Since when is it necessity to buy presents for everyone? Many people don't look forward to Christmas for the very reason of the burden on the finances. Since when did we get so greedy and selfish that we expect presents and lots of them. You can talk about the kids all you want and how it's nice to buy for them, but honestly...........do kids today really need more toys and junk? Good Will toward men means helping someone less fortunate than ourselves. I will spend money to help clothe and feed those less fortunate, but not for those I know have more than enough, and expect more.

Amen, Annella!!!! Couldn't have said it better myself!! If you were to ask most kids nowadays, they probably wouldn't EVEN know what the true meaning of Christmas is all about. All they want is STUFF!!

Thank you IceKitty, you do know however that we are in the minority, but it's good to find someone else not affected by the hype.

Oh, I know we are and I agree with ancmetro.....I celebrate CHRISTmas every day too!!

I remember that when I was in college and working at the Sears store. It was the middle of September, my manager and walked into the store together to see the Christmas stuff. She said, "It's about time, the other stores have had there stuff out for a week and a half..."

As a side note, after working that Christmas season, I swore I would never work retail again during the Christmas season and never have. Be kind to the retail people during Christmas! Thanks!

Seeing is tempting. On December 25, it's a big day, now imagined over 1 millions of people. There's not going to be enough shopping for 1 week from over 1 millions of people. It's best to shop on any Holidays earlier because no one likes to buy leftovers.

And as for "Seeing is tempting." Advertisers uses this trick to constantly show you something, even though you wouldn't want it as time, but eventually you will try it out. Like Verizon FiOS, or even new wireless cheap companies.

I like christmas in December , Thanksgiving in Nov.  etc..... not all togther thats so dumb.

I've worked at Sears too....MANY years ago. Nothing has really changed since way back then...Christmas stuff always comes out way too early, and when you're in retail it will drive you up the wall!!!

Oh I bet the poor retail workers go insane from the music, sounds, shoppers, etc. I could not handle it for 3 months!!

I agree about not waiting til the last minute. I pick things up on sale year round, but do not need three months of santa and such in stores! Drives me nuts. They ruin it for me.

I agree with those who don't like to see christmas "wares" being hawked in October.  I just went into Lowes yesterday, they didn't even have the halloween stuff down yet but those Christmas trees were going up.  Its ridiculous and greedy.  Some people lost their homes and had serious financial issues which for a lot of folks continues today.  2008 and 2009 we basically didn't even have a Christmas to speak of.  Just enjoyed having each other and two wonderful sons and good food to eat.  I think that we could have Thanksgiving then worry about Christmas but the merchants cater to the few and wealthy I guess who can start their Christmas whenever.  Oh well I am blessed and have a lot to be thankful for regardless.

i dont want christmas in october!!!!! i want Halloween! they used to wait till just before Thanksgiving to put out xmas stuff. Now Halloween is SHARING an isle with xmas. the only time i wana see that is NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS

I don't know but it seems to stress me more and more each year!  It only reminds me of how much I need to do in a short amount of time with a limited amount of money!!!!

I worked one Christmas season when I was very young (70's) in San Francisco at the "Emporium" on Market Street. It was horrible and never did it again like my friend above. However, back on topic,m Christmas is not about gifts and spending yourself into debt. Thanksgiving is wonderful if we remember who to thank for all our blessings on that day. I don't like people calling it "Turkey Day". Of course for some, it's the annual tribute to gluttony.
