Grocery store cleaning shelves

I went to my grocery store the other day and there were lots of what looked like temporary workers in every aisle.  They had loads of packages or cans next to them and they were stocking shelves.  It looked like a lot more than just doing a routine stock.  I found out they took everything off the shelves and them cleaned each shelf.  It had to be a massive undertaking.  It is nice to know that my store is interested in keeping a clean store. 

Have you ever heard of a store doing this?  It is a first for me.

I never thought much about it but I would have thought they would just clean a section when they restock it since they have to take the older ones off the shelves to put the newer ones in the rear.

WELL, THE REASON THEY DO THAT IS BECAUSE SOME CAN GOODS ARE ON THOSE SHELVES FOR QUITE SOME TIME, SO THEY HAVE THE STOCKERS DUST THEM OFF SO THAT IT DOESN'T OFFEND THE BUYERS.

My friend is a manager at a local grocery store. I guess they do that once a month.... They do inventory once a month, so while they are in the process of removing the items to count all of the products, they'll clean the shelf at the same time. It doesn't take that much longer to to, yet it keeps the store looking clean and impressing the customers.

thats good... thats alot better than walmart lol thats where i work and in some of the aisles you walk down you see a bunch of dusty and dirty cans and boxes... and dont even get me started on that leaky chicken!!!

Glad you mentioned walmart because I noticed the same thing a while ago and stop going there for that reason. I use to work in a grocery store it was a small one and we cleaned the shelves once a month or whenever the manager saw fit.

lol yea i'm not proud... the only thing i know for sure they clean is the batteries in front because they made me dust them all off before lol

I used to work at a Casey's convenience store and that is exactly what we were supposed to do when there were no customers in the store. Not only have I heard of it, I've done it.

I've had a problem in the past with getting food home and it's so close to the expiration date. I know they have to rotate foods, so cleaning the shelves at that time would be a quick thing to do. I now check every expiration date on everything I buy. If it doesn't have one, it doesn't get bought. Wal Mart is filthy dirty and they should clean their shelves plus the merchandise on those shelves. Nothing is a turn off more than at the end of a shopping trip, your hands are filthy from selecting your groceries. No excuse for it. Another thing is the conveyor belts that you put your food on to be checked can be filthy dirty with leaked meat juices and everything else on it. If it looks damp at all, I ask the checker to clean it. They get miffed, but it's part of their job. If they are too busy, I ask for the antibacterial solution and paper towels they all have in their cubbies, and do it for them.

you have to keep an eye on expirations when buying groceries now in days.
I have noticed at a lot of stores they are not rotating their stock ... and from what I hear from friends it is due being short staff with cut backs.
The cut backs lead to all expirations just being mixed from rushing to do as much before they have to go home so they just shove and move around without paying attention.
Some told me they don't care if it expires the store can just bite it ... but in the end it hurts consumer because what a store loses in revenue they make up with price increases.

I have never seen them clean the shelves in our stores here but they must do it because they are not dusty.  The one store that I have seen here that is terrible is Getto-mart.  (Walmart in a bad area of our little town)  Needless to say, I don't go there, even if I am on the East side of town.  Otherwise things are good here.
