I've had a Virgin Mobile prepaid phone for a few years now and they have really neat phones to choose from and reasonable plans like 300minutes and unlimited data, email, and text messages for $27 per month. It's 25 but with taxes comes out to about 27. this plan is perfect for me because I stay on the internet and text alot.the top up cards aren't expensive either if you run out of minutes and you can change your plan anytime, They also don't mind crediting you either, for instance my son purchased two games without me knowing and I was wondering where my money had went so when I called them they asked if I had purchased the games I told them no and if so it was an accident so they removed the games and credited me the money. I was happy because they didnt have to do that at all, it wasn't their fault. Well overall I'm a satisfied customer of virgin mobile and like it way better than other prepaid phones I've had in the past.

A friend of mine does the prepaid route and has it's advantages to a point. I would just try to minimize your plan as much as possible.

Ah, cell phones....there is always something to say.  I have T-mobile and it has been one of my favorite companies ever!  I won't consider another contract provider for any reason.  I may at some point check out pre-paid service but my old rate plan is so low, I think it isn't worth it yet.

I have a Virgin Mobile and it is great check them out online and see if there offers fit your needs.  Works for my family.  We have also in the past had a Tracfone but it has limits on it but its great for children.

I have At&T and feel the price is just way too much.  Has anyone had any luck with the prepaid phones ... like the one walmart has

I have a Net10 cell phone.  I bought it dirt cheap on Black Friday.  Every month I buy a $50 phone card - for $50 a month web, talk and text are unlimited.

Phone plans (and cable) rob people blind.  And they are sooo unnecessary.  We have a pay-as-you-go phone that we recharge with cards or online; the only downside is that there is an expiration date for the minutes, otherwise it would be even cheaper!!

Prepaid has its pros and cons, sometimes prepaid can be  less of  a hassle than a billed phone and  sometimes not. If you feel prepaid is best for you right now, I don't see why not. I have a family member who used prepaid for 10 years and couldn't be happier lol
