Medical Assistants
« on: May 01, 2011, 03:15:45 am »
I'm currently in school to become a Medical Assistant.  I'm taking an 18 month course that will give me an associates degree.  Any other students or graduates?  I'd be interested in hearing about the jobs you have landed, duties and wages.  It doesn't sound like there many good paying jobs in this field but the job market sounds promising.  Any suggestions, tips or information would be appreciated.

why go to be a Medical Assistant when you could be a nurse in that amount of time too? But most doctor offices hire Medical Assistants :peace:

I agree that going to be a nurse might have been the best choice but my schooling is being paid by TRA and I had to go for something that was approved by them and I was up against a time line.  There wasn't any nursing available so I took the MA course.  There are a bunch of jobs available in the field but they don't pay quite as much.

I'm actually in school for Medical Transcription. :)

A close friend of mine just finished her MA training a couple of months ago and hasn't had any luck finding a job. There are plenty of people hiring but they all want 2 years+ experience and even though she has still applied (with a fantastic GPA and a great recommendation from her internship) she hasn't even been able to get an interview. When she has called to follow up they always mention that she doesn't have experience. It's been very frustrating for her.

I wish you luck!! I hope you have better luck in your area than she has had.

Wow.  I hope I don't have this kind of problem.  Best wishes to your friend.
