First, do NOT feel stupid, please! If you aren't someone who is familiar with forums like this one, it's not something you would automatically know how to do. If you don't see the "reply" button, below a post, its either a locked post which you can't reply to or you aren't logged into the site. You'll get it all figured out, it just takes some getting used to. Welcome and enjoy yourself - remember, if you DO make a mistake, it's not a life or death situation and there is always the "modify" button - which I JUST used.
