2/1/11 (2) Are earthquakes Natural or Man-made? why and why not?

I feel its Natural as well as man made. I say man-made because sometimes areas where huge explosions are detonated at triggers a dominoe effect of  tremors under the earth surface.. which send a penetrated vibration  on  the earth bed.

As I understand it earthquakes are both naturaly occuring and man made.  Traditional earthquakes happen when the earths plates shift in position creating a shockwave that can be measuered by seismographic equipment.  Manmade earthquakes can be caused by man in various ways such as detonating explosions and removing water from the water table or extracting oil and gas causing a void where the earth collapses.  Also a significant structure like a dam or bridge collapsing can generate enough force to cause shock waves to be sent through the earth.

recently, i heard about an earthquake prediction and an
interesting point being made was that FEMA (federal
emergency management agency) had either recently
purchased or were looking to purchase (can't remember
exactly) a huge number of blankets and supplies. i think
this raised some questions on the next big "natural"
disaster that will occur...

i would think that they are more natural than man-made,
but i do believe that there are influences by man to head
eventual earthquakes. with as much construction, building,
digging, laying highways, etc, i think the earth's natural coarse
would have to be effected...

Yeah, look up HAARP and weather modification on Google.  In the New Mexico State of Emergency thread (elsewhere on here), I made some suggestions on some books and DVDs about the subject.

I think earthquakes are natural shifts along fault lines throughout the world.

Earthquakes are caused by the movement of Earth's tectonic plates far beneath the surface. The plates are floating on lava--that's how far down they are. I can't thing of anything we can do to cause an earthquake, short of tossing several nuclear bombs into the San Andreas fault.
