Has anyone heard the atkins diet?
« on: January 28, 2011, 08:13:53 am »
So this week I decided to try the atkins diet.I have been lowering my carbs and continuing to workout.I am finally starting to see the fruits of my labor payoff. For anyone that is trying to lose a few lbs but is not looking to give up meat, let me suggest the atkins diet. Because meat is low in carb and full of protein meat along with the green vegetables like broccoli, green beans, and greens will really help you burn fat easily. If you go to atkins.com they are offering 3 atkin bars for free, along with a free recipe book, and a book that shows you the nutional value of food all for free. They have alot of helpful tips and recipes. If you or someone you know is trying to lose weight and need a boost let them know about the free stuff at atkins.com.

The Atkins diet has been around for many years and some people can do it and others cannot. You need to be very careful with these things. Please read up as much as you can on it, good and bad. I would also like to suggest that you read up on Chia seeds. You might be very surprised about how helpful Chia can be. There is also a very good forum that can give you lots of ideas on weight control and diet. I've learned a lot there. Just go to natmedtalk.com and read the threads on dieting or weight loss. There is a huge wealth of information there. Good luck, ladycasshmere !

I agree with the previous post.  The Atkins diet has been around for a long time, and some people can follow it and some can't.  I have not tried it myself because I went the semi-vegetarian route to reduce my cholesterol level.  I wish you good luck in your endeavors, and, as also stated by the previous poster, make sure you arm yourself with all the information available.

None of those diet works.

Do "tweak" instead, it's better.

ATKINS is not a healthy long term diet -- you must be very careful.

I hope your being very careful with this diet.  Some people have had a lot of trouble with this diet.  To much protein.  The best way is to count calories and watch how much you eat.  I started taking the alli only one a day with my main meal and I have been watching the amounts I eat.  Keep a journel it truely helps and count calories.  I have lost a pant size already on the alli and its been a little over 2 months.  I can't do to much exercise due to my fibromayligia so I have to take it day by day but this is working for me.   :angel11:

I didn't try the Atkins Diet, but I cut out completely from my diet potatoes, bread, pasta, rice, and sugar for about 3 weeks, and I lost ~10lbs.  I ate lean meats(chicken, turkey, fish) fruits and vegetables.  It was a big sacrifice for me since I have a wicked sweet tooth, and my favorite food is pasta.  But cutting back on those items definitely took off the weight.

I am a medical practioner, have been for almost 30 years, and I will say one very important thing about this - watch yourself and listen to your body, even if the pounds start coming off! As already mentioned, this 'diet' is way too much protein for the average person and can be extremely hard on your liver and kidneys, can put bad cholesterol levels through the roof, and can permanently screw up your body metabolism - among other things. I hope you checked with your own doctor before you started this, but it doesn't sound like it from your post. Our bodies require carbohydrates, of the right kind, in order to stay fueled up, maintain proper glucose levels, and a host of other things. This is NOT saying we need empty carbs like cookies, chips, and the rest of the 'junk' we all (most of us anyway) get a craving for at times. ;)

It is also putting you at high risk for ketosis. I will not attempt to explain that whole process (ketosis) on here, but you can check it out on your own and please just read about it for your own sake. Ketosis can damage blood vessels and also causes tissue damage - not something you want to play around with.

If I sound like I am trying to scare you, I apologize. I just know what I have read and witnessed in some people who went on this 'diet' and you need to know what could happen. Who cares if you look good, but damaged the one body you were given in order to achieve it?
You are entitled to your own opinion, but you are not entitled to your own facts.

Diets like the Atkins or South Beach operate under excess of one thing(protein) and deprivation of another(carbs).  My husband and I were dieting together a few months ago.  He went on his typical no carb diet, and I just cut out starches, grains, sugars from candy and soda, and fried foods.  If he messed up and ate carbs, with all of the fat he was eating, he completely counteracted what he was doing.  If I had a piece of bread or a plate of pasta, I just didn't eat it again.  No harm done for me.  Everything in moderation, that is my motto.

Yeah, its been around for a while, Some people have tried it, some people havenot.
Some have succeeded, some have failed with it; and some have died.
It is a very bad system. All it is is a way too make money.
If you really want to lose weight, knowledge is power; and everything you need.
