Colorado Fetal Personhood
« on: October 08, 2010, 02:56:44 pm »
A Colorado Fetal Personhood, Amendment 62 will appear on the 2010 state ballot in Colorado as an initiated constitutional amendment. The measure marks the second time Colorado voters have seen an abortion-related measure on the statewide ballot. Amendment 48 appeared on the November 2008 statewide ballot in Colorado, where it was decisively defeated.

The officially-approved ballot title says:

An amendment to the Colorado Constitution applying the term 'person' as used in those provisions of the Colorado Constitution relating to inalienable rights, equality of justice and due process of law, to every human being from the beginning of the biological development of that human being.

According to reports, supporters contend that opponents have exaggerated the consequences of the proposed amendment. Opponents said the measure will change about 20,000 Colorado statutes and prohibit abortions in all cases regardless of the health of the mother, rape or incest. They also said that it will end scientific studies and industries. Additionally, they note that women may lose various forms of birth control and become partially liable for complications during pregnancy. These claims, said Personhood Colorado Director Gualberto Garcia Jones, are exaggerated. According to Jones the amendment will have an impact on reproductive health but not to the extent that opponents have stated. Jones said the measure would include "eliminating abortion, ending stem cell research and greatly changing the method by which in vitro fertilization is conducted."

What are your opinions on this matter?  Should personhood be defined by the moment of conception? Do you think it will honestly affect women right to obtain birth control?  Do you think if the woman is dying due to complications that she should be able to terminate said person if the law passes or should her life continue to be in jeopardy?

It's crafty, to say the least.  What a better way to get a challenge brought before the US Supreme Court than a case about whether a state law is unconstitutional.  Its a conservative maneuver to attempt to get Roe v. Wade overturned.

This will effect things like birth control, the "morning after" pill...not just abortion, stem cell research, and in vitro.

In all honesty...personhood should be defined by the moment of viability...when the fetus can survive outside of the mother's body.

There is too much law dictating sex, IMO.

There are a lot of political ads for this that mention women's inability to get common forms of birth control or how if a woman becomes pregnant thru rape or incest there will be nothing she can do about it so IMO I think the amendment will be defeated again.

Great minds think alike?  As far as I can tell, the only thing we don't agree on is the existence of g-d.

It seems to me the propaganda highlighting the dangers of over population played an important role  in legalizing & sustaining the legality of unborn baby killing in the Third Reich as well as Roe v. Wade America.
