Shopping for Severe Extreme Weather Conditions
« on: January 11, 2011, 07:50:10 am »
My Daughter and I were out doing some shopping Saturday in preperation for the Winter Storm System that was supposed to hit the following night ( it did).  We noticed that ths shelfs that were cleaned out were the frozen goods and refrigerated goods and I made the comment to my daughter, "What are those folks gonna do when the power goes out?"  So my question is what are the things you shop for in preperation for a severe or extreme weather system.  We stocked up on batteries, canned goods, bread, and bottled water.

I believe snacks and bottled water just in case the electric goes out.  Make sure to keep warm and have salt and shovels (snow removal) for the sidewalks and driveways.

Here it seems like people buy toilet paper, bread and milk.
:)  for us, we have supply of toilet paper most given times -- so I don't stock up on that in preparation for a storm.

I do like to have bread on hand and milk, juice
We also have electric appliances, and have a grill if we really needed it - but if we lost power for a significant amount of time we also would be freezing(electric heat) so we would have to find another place to go -- wouldn't matter what we had stocked up on.

I keep crackers and peanut butter around --
We also have veggies/fruits (canned/fresh)

Your stockage items are good and they will get you by for a winter storm.  I live in Pinehurst, NC, so we do not get a lot of bad weather.  However, the recent snow storm did pound us pretty good.  We were already prepared by having the same things on hand that you have.  The only other thing I would be sure to have on hand is some type of heating source, i.e., gas fire-place or a propane canister with a heating element on it to keep you very warm.  It sure is nice to be warm and snug during an electrical outage.
