Why doesn't he get it?
« on: March 02, 2011, 01:18:23 pm »
I love my fiance and we rarely fight, but when we do and I get really upset I want to just be left alone for 5/10 minutes to cool off when I get extremely frustrated.  The thing with him is he will follow me around and keep talking about the situation and won't give me that 5/10 minutes to cool off, then I end up getting even more frustrated.  He says I am running away from the problem and that I don't like to talk about situations and work things out.  I feel that this isn't the case at all, I am completely capable of talking about the situation after I have had 5/10 minutes to myself where I can relax and talk to him like an adult instead of an upset teenager.  How can I get this through to him, because even though we've almost been together for 5 years he still doesn't get it.

I understand what you mean.  Sometimes that 5/10 minutes becomes essential to calming the situation.  Maybe you should try having that conversation with your fiance at a time where you aren't arguing.  Just a normal conversation and explain to him what you need to avoid making a bad situation worse.
