Going Back To School.. Need advice on grants.
« on: December 05, 2010, 04:32:25 pm »
Hello All,

I am going back to school to attain a degree in pharmacy  :angel11:I have graduated highschool and have no idea on where to go or how to apply for grants. I have seen lots of adds for services and software but every time I look into them they seem to be scams :bs:... I once even broke down and purchased grant writing software but it got me as far as a car with no wheels :BangHead:. Any advice you might have would be greatly appreciated!!

-PS if it helps Iam married and am a father of three. I have a job but ::) I mentioned I have three kids sooo thats that ;)

Start by going to www.fafsa.gov. That is where you apply for financial aid. I went back to school last year. After that, I would talk to your school to see what you would have in your area for grants and such. I know there is a lot in my area. You need your taxes done to fill out the fafsa(they ask what you earned from your tax return). I hope I helped at least a little bit. Good luck!

i have a bit of advice and its from complete and
total experience - make SURE to research the school
you choose to go to and check out their tuition rates.
i'm in debt WAY over my head because i didn't do (among
a few other things that i'll get to in a minute). i could
have owed half for the degree i have now, if i would have
realized that the school i went to was considered a
"private" school with jacked up tuition rates. looking back
now, i was completely uneducated when it came to making
these big decisions!

be very weary of anything the financial aid office at the
school wants you to sign. ask for a copy of EVERYTHING
they want you to sign - and don't sign anything before
you've had a chance to take it home and review it. you
have to stand your ground on this too, or they will talk/
scare you into signing right then and there. definitely a
no no.

two words you never want in your life, ever: SALLIE MAE.
sallie mae is a huge student loan company that will more
than likely be suggested by any financial aid advisors you
talk to at the school you choose. research student loan
companies thoroughly and choose a small, credible one
with good rates and good reviews. also, talk to your bank
about student loans because they can point you in the
right direction of trustworthy loan companies!

i really can't express how much you do NOT want to go
through sallie mae for your student loans. they are after
your money and have teenagers working their call centers
who wouldn't know what a student loan was if it bit them
in the...

you get my point. GOOD LUCK  :peace:
