if boys are smarter, than why are more girls at the top of their classes than boys? Actually, I don't think gender is a factor. Boys and girls have different strong points and weak points, so boys are smarter for some things and girls are smarter in others, but it all evens out. Actually, I think it mostly depends on the individual; some boys are smarter than girls, and some girls are smarter than boys. Even if women have smaller brains, a lot of the brain is unused anyway, so maybe women just use more of their brains than men do.

I think it just depends on the kid...it seems like girls show there smarts. I think boy dont because they will they will get tease more for being a nerd!!

Girls are, because boys sometimes let their actions get them into trouble, because they do not think before they do stuff.

Why was the question phrased girls vs. boys instead of women vs. men?  Do you seriously mean kids?  If so, what's the point?  It's too young to tell their intelligence potential in most cases.

I think both sexes have the potential to be brilliant, but if you want my honest observation, it would have to be MEN who are smarter when it comes to society at large at its current state.  This is because a large number of women still have a very strong pull to be mothers; plenty still opt to give up their careers to focus on raising their children, or take less demanding jobs to accommodate their family.  Which is perfectly fine and their right and is perhaps even necessary for raising a healthy future generation.  But it does mean most of the technological, medical, scientific, legal, government, etc. jobs are still going to men.  And those jobs require skill, dedication, and commitment that a mother may be unwilling to sacrifice family time for.

Girls do mature faster than boys. After all, boys don't mature anymore after they reach a certain point, they just get bigger.
