Creamated or regular funeral?
« on: January 04, 2011, 12:08:01 am »
My father-in-law just passed away and he was creamated, which made everything alot easier to deal with. What  would you do?

Belongs in off topic.
I don't know I think there could be a debate here. I for one think burials are a stupid waste of space and should be stopped all together. Cremation for the win.

Cremation.  I don't want to take up space and I don't want people visiting a grave.

I could care less. I would be dead. Do what you want with my body.  :angel12:

Probably cremation (apparently it's crem, not cream. I just looked it up to be sure.) for some reasons already stated. It uses up less room. And I'd like to be buried under a tree or something of the sort. Your loved ones can drop you in a place that meant a lot to both you and them. That, and you don't want anyone to be stuck with a huge bill after you die. Unless you wanted revenge! Mwahaha!

I have to say that I grew up in a family that had one side that did regular (fathers side) and Cremation (mom side).  regular is really hard on the family for some people where cremation sometimes people don' t feel like there is not closure.  So it is hard to tell what is best for everyone.  So I think everyone makes different choices but you have to remember to think about it befoe it is to late.

I did a study in bible college that revealed that more people are leaning toward cremation because of cost and convenience.

I prefer to be cremated and I don't need a fancy costly urn either. My family (parents, grandparents) believe you should be buried but I think they are starting to shy away from that too

Thanks for the spell check falconer, when I wrote it, I was still in a little bit of shock. We had just gone to pick up his ashes that day, and I just started typing!!!
It definitely takes up less space! For me, it cuts down the mourning process. We already saw him in the hospital after he passed, and that's something you will never forget. No need to draw it out with a funeral, and crazy relatives, ect.

Tough topic... my family would like to see that they have a place to visit me, but every since I was a little kids all I could think about is being buried and haveing insects crawling all over me. (I know it can't happen but still). I have always wanted to be creamated and have my ashes spread in the ocean. (I would rather be eaten by fish than deal with the bugs...LOL) I know that the cost of creamation is a lot cheaper, and I would want something cheap and easy and not have to put a lot of money into it. It just cost way too much to buy a coffin and head stone these days. Why not just keep it simple.
