Pronto Processing Service?..Please tell me if theyre legit

 I'm trying to find out if this check my parents got from "Pronto Processing Services" today, is legit... the letter told us to call Bob Martins, and he told us to deposit it at our Bank of America, then he would send us a check for 250,000$ O_O  I guess to pay off the taxes... but they wouldn't accept it and said it's possibly a fraud...

So we searched online and got the phone number for the Bank of the West, discovered they are legit, but located in Canada...we asked them if they'd cash it, and they gave us a 1-900 number to call(1.50 charge) they would tell us if they can cash it or not.

But now my dad is convinced it's fraud... and won't even call it

 how come Im not seeing any results about fraud from this place online... everything seems so legit...usually i can find results about companies committing fraud

this check looks so real lol

I think im gonna call just to see what they want, if they ask for any personal info or processing fee then i will knw for sure..and I'll report back

I'll explain.  They will instruct you to deposit the check and send them some or all of the cash, immediately, often via western union.  You go to your bank, deposit the check and withdraw the cash, and everything looks OK.  Once "Pronto" gets the money from you, you will never hear from them again.  But you WILL hear from your bank, 2-10 days later, saying that the check is fraudulent and YOU are responsible for coming up with the money (which has already, by the way, been debited out from your bank account).

Even if you deposit the check just to be "curious", and it later is returned, you will pay your bank a fee.  So there's no sensible thing to do except throw it away.  You can try to report it to BBB, a local government agency, and/or the FBI... but this is one of the most common scams in the country and it probably wont help much to stem the tide.

Edit: and if Google is worth anything, this forum thread will rank for "Pronto Processing Service" pretty soon, thereby helping others who may be wondering.

Ahhh thanks for that explanation man... Yeah we need to inform the WWW about this BS! I even sent out an email to the Owner of "Pronto Process"...we'll see what he has to say
