Herpes and Dating
« on: August 09, 2010, 04:23:00 pm »
What are your thoughts on Herpes?  I have a friend who says its hard trying to date someone who is  herpes free and that the opposite gender steer away from those who do have the disease in their immune system.  I wonder if that is true or could it be the person herself.

Your thoughts on the subject.

I do not have genital herpes.  however, I do have herpes simplex (meaning cold sores) that is genetically passed.  when I do have a partner, I am always honest, and I avoid any kind of mouth contact if I have an active case.  if someone does not want to be involved based on that one fact alone, then that is their loss and quite smallminded of them.  imho... :peace:

I just had to click on this after I saw the heading.  You should always be honest about things like that.  It's not cool to find out later that your partner has an STD.  My cousin's boyfriend gave her HPV and she had to have all kinds of surgery because of it.  She may not be able to have children.  He claims he didn't know, but they're a perfect example of why everyone should get tested regularly!

I am std free, not sure if i would want to put myself out there and take that chance of getting something, no matter how serious it is But ppl should always tell the truth about things like that because it may be life threating or cause them to be infertial!!!

I also get cold sores but don't get them often now.  I used to take L-lysine that will help tremendously.  I stopped taking it (just get lazy) and need to start again.  When I did take it I went about a year without getting one (until I got lazy and stopped).

Back to the topic I knew someone with herpes actually dated him and he always told his gf's that he had it before they got to the point of being sexual.  He told me he never gave any of his partners herpes according to him his case wasn't that bad.  He has since gotten married and had two kids.  As long as you are honest with someone and tell them everything and let them make the decision as to how far they want to take things that's what you have to do.  I'm sure there are some people that don't say anything because they don't want to be rejected but honesty is the best policy.

I agree with all of you.  The most important point is being honest upfront.  And that is the way my is friend because she is very honest and she tells the guys she date right way and she said they act as though she told them she has the black plague.  Some people can be very insensitive and I think she has been hurt a lot because of ignorant people.
