Rush has announced he has 'advanced' lung cancer. As a long time fan, I pray for his recovery.

He actually IS your president. He IS the president of the United States whether you voted for him or not.  Whether you like him or not.  As far as Rush being awarded that medal it is NOT a disgrace. Your not agreeing with it doesn't make it a disgrace.

Now the way filose acted WAS a disgrace. But I am sure you applauded every disgraceful thing she and the other dumorats done during his speech.

A lot of people in general have cancer.  I could not care less if a celebrity has cancer.  They are no more special than any one else.  At least they have excellent health care and can afford treatment where the average person may not can and are just sent home to die.

Why was it a disgrace and how does this reflect poorly on Trump? Unless you are coming from the Orange Man Bad in all that he does mentality, this was absolutely an appropriate recipient of this medal.  Take a look at its purpose, its qualifications for being awarded, and it prior recipients - and you will be hard pressed to argue that this was a disgrace or inappropriate in any way.

It shows me that I have a President with compassion who knows how and to whom to award the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

No, he is not MY president.  I didn't vote for him and would never vote for him!! As far as that racist, conspiracy theorist, hateful Limbaugh, giving him a medal in the House of Representatives would be like giving one to a major Democrat in the Senate,  It was disrespectful and ignorant, but then that's who this president is.  If you like him, like him.  But don't tell me to like him, respect him, or call him my president.

You neither have to like him OR respect him.  But there is no denying the fact that he IS YOUR President if you are a United States citizen. It's not as simple as just saying it is not so.  :)

I am trying to understand your comment: "giving him a medal in the House of Representatives would be like giving one to a major Democrat in the Senate".  What does that mean?

There have been a lot of other people who have gotten this medal by other presidents who were commentary radio show hosts. This is nothing new. unless you live in another country Trump is your president whether you like it or not. That's why he is called President of the United States.  A lot of people didn't like Obama but they didn't state he wasn't their president.

OMG. I'm SO sick of hearing this "not MY president" BS. It doesn't matter if you voted for him or not. It doesn't matter if you agree with him or not. It doesn't matter if you like him or not. He is the president of the United States. Do you live in the United States? Yes? Then he is your president, until someone else takes over.

Trump is my president. So was Obama and Bush (x2) and Clinton and Reagan. And I have never voted in my entire life.

Would it be out of line for me to ask why you haven't voted and to perhaps encourage you to consider it? The country could always use more voters who vote with their brains rather than just checking a box because someone else [whether intentionally or by honest mistake] wrongfully told them that was the person/party who has their best interests at heart.

I'm sympathetic for Rush Limbaugh's health situation.  But he is a poor choice to be a recipient of the Medal of Freedom.  It is to be awarded "for especially meritorious contribution to the security or national interests of the United States, or world peace, or cultural or other significant public or private endeavors". Rush was just as divisive as our president.

Look at past recipients of this same award and then re-read what you yourself quoted.

Actor Robert DeNiro (whom I love as an actor, but cannot stand as a political mouthpiece) was awarded with the same honor by President Obama. DeNiro cannot put forth a single sentence about Trump without also dropping multiple F-bombs and going on a spastic tirade about inflicting personal violence against the President. Talk about being divisive... Rush Limbaugh is much more qualified for this award than DeNiro, IMO. But we are not the ones making those decisions.  Obama was fully within his right and prerogative to give this medal to Robert DeNiro - an actor who has had numerous memorable movies and roles throughout his career. Trump was absolutely and undeniably qualified to honor Rush Limbaugh in the same way.  ANYONE who accepts one and rejects the other is a short-sighted hypocrite, plain and simple.

Turning to your quote (which comes straight from the award terms itself: "cultural or other significant public or private endeavors"... talk radio as a source of news and entertainment would not exist today in the form that it is were it not for Rush Limbaugh. This isn't about agreeing or disagreeing with his political views. This is about cultural contributions.

Opinions vary.  Every President has the "right" to award the medal.  But Rush belittled and ridiculed blacks, women, gay people, the ill, etc, etc. That's not what I call contributing to our culture.

Don't care what you say Countygirl12 he is not my president and they acted just like your president  (Childish) so claim him if you like, but don't tell me who is my president, didn't vote for him. I sure you applauded everything Dump said and did.  Rush  Limbaugh is a bigot and a racist so that is why I stated to give him that medal was a disgrace, you may not agree and that is your right as it is mind. Call him your president all you want but I know a number of people who do not think of him as their president.  The last I checked, I am still allowed my opinion.  Of course, under trump, who knows when they will try to legislate that!  Didn't vote for him, won't vote for him, don't respect him, embarrassed to say he represents the U.S., and am not calling him my president.  It's as simple as that, so put a cap on your opinion toward me!  Mine opinion is mine and it's not changing unless Trump changes into a decent human being.  Like that is going to happen!

Here's some of the lovely statements Rush was known for.  I actually remembered three of them but looked up a few others.  Such a "colorful' character to put it nicely.  He was known for spewing racist remarks and looking down on women.  Here are just a few.

Re: Blacks-"They're just 12% of the population.  Who the hell cares?"

To a Black caller- "Take that bone out of your nose and call me back."

Re: Latinos- "Let the unskilled jobs that take absolutely no knowledge whatsoever to do--let stupid and unskilled Mexicans do the work."

"Holocaust? 90 million Indians? Only 4 million left? They all have casinos--what's to complain about?"

"When women got the right to vote is when all went downhill. Because that's when vote started beig cast with emotion and uh, maternal instincts that government ought to reflect."

"When a gay person turns his back on you, it is anything but an insult; it's an invitation."

This is the great guy that was given the Medal of Honor in our Congress.  That ought to tell you something!

Celebrates are no better than everybody else, then they're no worse either. You seem to equate concern over a celebrity with cancer with their elevation to godhood. That seems a jump of hitch-like proportions.

You treat everyone like they're 'snowflakes', but all I'm saying is-unless you're a marine drill sergeant- having a modicum of tact and dropping the 'damn what you think' mentality can also be useful in life. Know when to use each in the proper context.

Really doesn't matter. Some may have been taken out of context. Others, well in over 30 years of being in broadcast radio, he's bound to have said a few things to tick folks off. Doesn't negate the good he's done. I'm not down with cancel culture.

1 thousand thumbs up!

I really forgot who he was until I saw this post and looked him up. I always thought he had a catchy name.

Seems like a lot of celebrities are getting cancer

A lot of people in general have cancer.  I could not care less if a celebrity has cancer.  They are no more special than any one else.  At least they have excellent health care and can afford treatment where the average person may not can and are just sent home to die.

Know when to use each in the proper context.

lol  Now you are calling me hitch.  Guess him telling you there is something going on between us (which there is not and never would be) got to you.  That is hilarious.  Most people are snow flakes.  They get all bent out of shape if anybody disagrees with them.  Not sure what the "godhood" comment is about.  I don't think I mentioned God at all.  Like I said A LOT of people have cancer.  People act like if a celebrity gets cancer it is the end of the world and everybody is just suppose to be all upset.  What about all the other people who have cancer.  I think it is the one who posts under "cateyes" in here has mentioned having cancer.  A celebrity is no more important than her.  Being a celebrity does not make you special.

Got nothing to do with hitch. I've called you out for being abrasive long before hitch started adding that routine to his shtick.

It's just the way you come across with this huge chip on your shoulder sometimes. It's not always necessary. But hey, as the kids say these days "you do you."

I am not abrasive.  I also do not coddle.  Said it before.  As for what hb says about me, to me, or thinks, I could not care any less.  I have ignored him for months but yet he still seems obsessed with me. lol

You're gonna need some sources to back those up. Anybody can (and does) say anything about anybody these days. Where are the facts?

If you are really interested and care about who you support and think is great, look them up yourself!  It's all over the internet!

Really doesn't matter. Some may have been taken out of context. Others, well in over 30 years of being in broadcast radio, he's bound to have said a few things to tick folks off. Doesn't negate the good he's done. I'm not down with cancel culture.

I guess we're all entitled to our opinions until we have to be called out on thinking a person has done "good."  This man is well-known as a racist, misogyonist, and generally nasty guy who stands with white men over just about any other group.  You can tell from what he has stated on a national stage. Excusing and justifying him by length of career, out of context, or anything else is inexcusable and pathetic.  Please think more critically about who and what you support!

Sorry, but I just don't see it.  Very much like Donald Trump, Rush has been accused of being racist, misogynist, etc. because he has stated conservative minded opinions that others with a liberal mindset oppose. National media have repeated their biased opinions (which paint every single conservative thinker as a racist regardless of their true opinions and reasoning/rationale). This turns into the generalization from those who never bother to listen to these thinkers outside of isolated sound bytes taken out of context - in turn making their own generalized parroted statements and accepting those biases as truth.

I, for one, think very critically of (and do disagree at times with) Rush Limbaugh, but overall (not in every individual instance) agree with much of what he says. I can say the same thing with regard to noted conservatives Bill O'Reilly and Ben Shapiro, among others.

All three are considered racist Nazis by the mainstream media and by all those who follow those media outlets like sheep. But if you would take the time to listen to the reasoning, logic, and rationale that these (and other conservatives) provide in their commentary - really listen to it and not automatically discard it you would see that there is some truth to what they say and that they are not the evil mean-spirited misogynists that you have been programmed to assume that they are.

Please think more critically about who and what you have been programmed to automatically consider to be evil without giving any real analysis to what they have really said as opposed to what has been reported that they have said. THAT mentality is what is truly "inexcusable and pathetic".

The person who is the President is a fact, not an opinion... it really is as simple as that.
You can choose to not care for the President & wish that person wasn't the President, but in reality that person is the President.  If you are a citizen of the United States of America he is your President whether you like it or not; he is still your President whether other people you know choose to live in a false reality or not; he is still your President whether you can't get over your Cognitive Dissonance or not.... yeah, I know, it was HER turn.

& you seem to be further confused that Trump & Republicans are for big government having the ability to legislate what you can believe in; when in fact big government & thought control is a trait of the Democrats & the Socialists.

Peace!

>Rush Limbaugh is a bigot and a racist
Rush Limbaugh's producer for the past 30 years is a Black man.

I've been listening to Rush off & on for almost 2 years, & haven't heard anything that is derogatory towards anyone; definitely not anything racist or bigoted.

Thank you for proving my point. Anyone who actually listens to him on an infrequent basis (you don't have to listen to every second of every show; I only catch about an hour or so a week generally speaking) would know that this man in a conservative, but not a racist.

Rush Limbaugh is an intelligent, thoughtful man. Probably a great man who deserves the medal he earned. :star: His reaction to receiving it during the President's speech was so sweet.

I'm happy for him to have received this honor at such a difficult point in his life. Speedy recovery, Rush. I'm glad my President honored you. I honor you too.  :rainbow:

I have listened to him because I had a brother-in-law who thought Rush was great!  Not so great in my mind.  I'm not debating this point any further because I am over the cult mentality!! I sure would like to know the "truths" Limbaugh OR Trump states because they are few and far between.  Done with the conversation!

I see you have a problem with what "conservative" means and the meanings of "nasty," racist," "biased," and "sleazy." Still pathetic!

Janice,
We have differing viewpoints and while I don't apologize if I have offended you with mine, I do appreciate your willingness to debate/discuss those differences of opinion. But I also respect your decision to end the discussion.

While I can assure you that I am not coming from a cult mentality here, I am 100% willing to admit that there are extremists on both ends of the spectrum who can be dangerous and close minded.

Good luck and God's blessings on you. I hope you are able to cash out this month on Fusion Cash, which is the reason most of us are even aware of this forum existing in the first place!

If you are not debating it any further then STOP!  You are not done with the conversation.  You made further comments after this one and will continue. lol  If you are done - then be done.  Trump is the president.  Get over it.  We had to deal with your god obama for 8 years so you can deal with Trump being the president.

I agree.  He has done nothing worthy of a metal.
